Yankees Trade Rumors: White Sox have reportedly asked for Gleyber Torres and/or Clint Frazier in Jose Quintana deal

There’s no doubt that the Yankees have been in the market for a front of the rotation arm for a couple of years now. With CC Sabathia’s health issues, Masahiro Tanaka pitching to a five-plus ERA, and Michael Pineda’s inconsistency, the Yankees most consistent starters have been rookie Jordan Montgomery and flamethrower Luis Severino.

However, even Severino has been shaky as of late, and the trade deadline is approaching. Jose Quintana has been a name that has floated around in Yankee land for the past year or so. With a surplus of semi-pro talent in the Yankees farm system, it’d seem like a great idea.

Not so fast.

The White Sox have been trying to move Quintana since winter, and many people are wondering what is taking them so long. Well, it seems to be the asking price.

The White Sox acquired top prospects Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech over the winter from in the Red Sox in exchange for solidified ace and Cy Young contender Chris Sale. While Quintana is no where near Sale’s caliber, the White Sox think he is. According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the White Sox are rumored to have mentioned Gleyber Torres and/or Clint Frazier as a headline in a package that would send Quintana to the Yankees.

Personally, I don’t think I would trade Gleyber Torres OR Clint Frazier for Jose Quintana straight up. Both players have the potential to be All-Stars for a long time to come in the Major Leagues. Frazier is starting to have his coming out party, while Torres is on hold with a season ending elbow injury that forced him to get Tommy John.

Also, we aren't talking about 2016 Jose Quintana, who had ace stuff. This is 2017 Jose Quintana, who is pitching to a 4-8 record with a 4.49 ERA. The 28 year old South Paw hasn’t been very consistent, and definitely isn't worth giving up a top prospect of the caliber of Torres or Frazier. The White Sox youth movement shouldn’t come at the expense of the Yankees, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a deal done. I just don’t think that deal will include either Gleyber Torres or Clint Frazier. GM Brian Cashman stated the Yankees would be “careful buyers” during the deadline. A move that could get rid of two potential All-Stars and starters for years to come doesn't sound very careful to me.
