In a bit of shocking news, Brian Cashman announced on Friday that Michael Pineda has a partially torn UCL and will be seeking a second opinion on the injury. Cashman was clear that the recommendation is for Pineda to have Tommy John Surgery.

Many eyebrows were raised when the Yankees’ finally announced their probable starters for this weekend and Bryan Mitchell was listed as the starter for part of Sunday’s doubleheader. It remains to be seen why CC Sabathia is absent as well. Cashman said that they will use Mitchell and Luis Cessa to fill in the gaps in the rotation for now but he also said that it is possible that Chance Adams will get a shot in the majors sometime soon.

For the 2017 season, Michael Pineda has posted an 8-4 record, with a 4.39 ERA over 96.1 IP. He got off to a hot start this year but recently he had regressed and turned back into the inconsistent pitcher we have watched over the last few seasons. It is likely that this injury spells the end of his tenure with the team.
