Tanaka pitches well, but Yankees get shut out for first time all season in 3-0 loss in series finale

Following a clean 3-0 win in game one of the day/night doubleheader in Boston, the Yankees came into Sunday night's game looking to take three of four against the first place Red Sox. The Yankees sent Masahiro Tanaka to the mound against David Price, who has had a recent history of struggling mightily against the Yankees. Unfortunately, Price brought his best stuff as the Red Sox shutout the Yankees with a 3-0 win of their own.

Tanaka was cruising through his first two innings of work, but ran into a bit of trouble in the third after allowing a two-run bomb to Mookie Betts. Still, Tanaka settled down and would only allow one other run in the sixth inning on a Dustin Pedroia RBI single. This was a strong start for Tanaka who put together seven encouraging innings.

Unfortunately for the Yankees, the offensive highlights were few and far between. Aside from Garrett Cooper recording his first hit a double down the line, the Yankees could not string any hits together as they were shut out for the first time this season.

The Yankees threatened in the eighth inning, but their threat quickly came to an end after Jackie Bradley Jr. made an incredible catch to rob Aaron Judge of a home run.

The Yankees will begin a three game set in Minnesota against the Twins on Monday. This should be a good opportunity to win a series, as the Yankees have failed to win a series since the June 9 through June 11 sweep of the Baltimore Orioles.
