MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees have reached out to Mets about Lucas Duda, Addison Reed

Though the two clubs are not traditional trade partners, the Yankees have "reached out" to the Mets regarding reliever Addison Reed and first baseman Lucas Duda, per MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

The Yankees were reported to be interested in Duda last week, and now they are also looking at the Mets' bullpen to upgrade there. However likely a deal is to get done, it makes sense for both sides as Duda is a rental so the Yankees would likely not have to part with any top prospects in the deal.

This season, Duda is hitting .248/.355/.550 with 16 homers, 34 RBIs and 19 doubles in 66 games. The Yankees currently have a platoon of Garrett Cooper and Ji-Man Choi at first base, so adding the left-handed bat of Duda to the mix would be a welcomed addition to the roster.

On the other hand, the Yankee bullpen has been the glaring culprit of the Yankees recent struggles, and Reed could be a valuable upgrade. Reed has experience in high leverage situations as a former closer of the White Sox, and current Mets closer with Jeurys Familia out.

This season, Reed is 0-2 with a 2.47 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and .243 batting average against. He's struck out 45 batters in 43.2 innings and converted 15 of his 17 save opportunities.

Like Duda, Reed is also set to be a free agent at the end of the season so he is effectively a rental. Ideally, the Yankees would love to make a deal happen at a cheap price with the cross-town rival. The Yankees and Mets are not traditional trade partners, but we did recently see a cross-town deal between the White Sox and Cubs, so a deal could happen.

In the Yankee bullpen, Reed would likely slot into the seventh inning role before handing the game off to Dellin Betances in the eighth and Aroldis Chapman in the ninth.

In the bullpen, the Yankees have also been linked to David Robertson of the White Sox, Pat Neshek of the Phillies, and David Phelps and AJ Ramos of the Marlins.
