MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees expected to be in the market for Braves’ Matt Adams
About a week ago, FanRag writer Jon Heyman speculated that the Yankees could be
in the market to acquire current Braves first baseman Matt Adams. In his
article, Heyman discussed a trade proposal that would send
Adams to the Bronx, and right handed pitching prospects Domingo Acevedo and
Drew Finley to Atlanta.

As
of right now, Adams, 28, is in the midst of a career resurgence. He was always
thought of as the odd man out while with the Cardinals, but the change of
scenery upon his trade to the Braves has done him well. Overall, Adams is
slashing .292/.339/.608 to go with 13 homers in 171 at bats with his new club.
That is definitely the kind of production the Yankees could use in a position
that has mostly been a black hole this year, and Adams would fare well in
Yankee Stadium, due to the short porch and his left handed swing.
However,
it should be noted that Adams’ hot streak may be misleading. His career high in
homers is just 17, in 2013, and while his power may be legitimate (he is just
28 after all), it also may be a fluke. Adams has really never been a full time
player in his career, so the Yankees should be weary of this.
As
for the trade proposal, I have a hard time believing the Yankees would give up
Acevedo in a deal for Adams. He was ranked as the organizations #14 prospect to
begin the season, and has climbed from High-A to AAA in just half a season due
to his dominance. He has the potential to be a top 10 organizational prospect,
and even though Adams has another season of control, I don’t see the Yankees
trading Acevedo for a player who has as uneven a track record as Adams does.
