The Yankees will be watching the World Series from their couches for the 13th consecutive season, Aaron Judge is a free agent with no guarantee of his return, the Yankees are the laughingstock of the league this week after playing an embarrassing 2004 Red Sox ALCS comeback montage as motivation from their own 3-0 ALCS deficit.  Oh yeah, and did we mention we lost to Houston AGAIN?  Things are very-bad, no-good in Yankeeland right now as we embark on another offseason of frustrations and questions about where things went so wrong.  The writers of the BBB each weigh in on the state of the team and the franchise as a whole. Hello darkness, our old friend. Another failed postseason. Another infuriating defeat at the hands of the Houston Astros. The Yankees dropped Game One of the 2022 American League Championship Series last night in predictable fashion - an offensive no show at the mercy of Justin Verlander, but more frustratingly, because of the bullpen mismanagement of manager Aaron Boone.  Thoughts below from some of our writers as we react to the moves Boone made not just last night, but throughout his Yankees tenure. The New York Yankees entered the 2021 season as World Series favorites but struggled through mediocrity and general malaise over the course of the entire season before fizzling out well short of their goal in the American League Wild Card Game at the hands of hated rivals Boston Red Sox.  Two weeks after their playoff elimination, it was announced Manager Aaron Boone's contract would be renewed for three more seasons with a fourth-year option.  Writers of the BBB weigh in on both below:   Photo Credit: Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post

Remember when it seemed like someone was sustaining some sort of injury every night, and we could slowly and painfully feel our souls leaving our bodies as a result? Well, those days are over. With the activation of James Paxton this morning, the Yankees are slowly getting healthier. The Yankees will be forced to place yet another player on the Injured List, as Troy Tulowitzki suffered a calf strain during Wednesday’s game against the Tigers. The cause of the strain is unknown to this point; Tulo was simply replaced by Tyler Wade during the game and will be undergoing further testing. For most of the offseason, amid the rumors surrounding Bryce Harper and Manny Machado, the Yankees were rumored to be seeking extensions with some of their impending 2019-2020 free agents; most notably Aaron Hicks, Dellin Betances, and Didi Gregorius. Exactly one third of those dominoes has now fallen, after Hicks and the Yankees agreed to a seven-year, $70 million extension early Monday morning. It was reported later that day that the Yankees were laying the groundwork on extending Betances as well. Next up for Yankees: Dellin Betances. I’m just going to come right out and say it: today’s game was absolutely brutal. It was the first game all year that I legitimately shut off because I was so annoyed. The ending score, Orioles 7, Yankees 5, doesn’t nearly tell the whole story. This game had a little of everything that has annoyed everyone about the Yankees this year; bad starting pitching from Sonny Gray, inability to hit with runners in scoring position, and overall just a lack of effort from the team as a whole. With the 2018 season now officially half way over, the 2018 All-Star Game was upon us. Although four Yankees were selected, only Aaron Judge and Luis Severino made appearances; Gleyber Torres is still on the DL and Aroldis Chapman chose to refrain from pitching in order to rest his ailing knee. Man, if I had told you that, in a game that was started by Sonny Gray and Dylan Bundy, that one starter went 2.2 innings and allowed five runs, while the other went six scoreless, what would your reaction have been? Sonny Gray sucked again? Well, that wasn’t the case on Wednesday. The Yanks bounced back from a brutal loss on Tuesday night with a blowout win over the Orioles, 9-0. Sonny pitched a solid six innings, while Bundy was knocked out early. AP

The Yankees returned to Toronto for the first time since the season’s opening series, and pummeled the Blue Jays’ bullpen en route to a 7-2 victory. The game started out slow, but overall turned out to be a solid victory for the Bombers, led by homers from Andujar and Hicks, along with a great start by CC Sabathia. Following the Yankees 7-4 win in the first game of today’s double header, they reinstated RHP Adam Warren from the 10-Day DL, and optioned RHP Tommy Kahnle to AAA. Bruce Kluckhohn / AP

The last time the Yankees and Astros played at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees hammered Dallas Keuchel, en route to a 3-2 ALCS lead. They entered today’s Memorial Day hoping for more success, but unfortunately Justin Verlander and the Astros had other ideas. Verlander once again dominated the Yankees, and the Astros took the first game of the series, 5-1. Charles Wenzelberg

Unlike Friday night, the Yankees showed no sign of rust after not playing all week, as they clobbered five long balls en route to an 8-3 win over the Royals. With the win, the Yanks (29-13) are once again tied for first place in the AL East with the Red Sox (31-15). AP
