Frazier saves the day as he tops off big game with walk-off three-run homer against Brewers

The Yankees came into Saturday's game losers of three straight, and in desperate need for a series win before the All-Star break, yet they ran into a deceptive lefty in Brent Suter and were without a hit until the fifth inning. The Yanks found themselves in a tough spot in this one, and were forced to once again climb out from an early hole and to overcome the pitching staffs recent struggles: and they would. Baby Bomber Clint Frazier capped off his big day with a massive three run walk off home run to give the Yankees a much needed win, defeating the Brewers 5-3.

Severino did not have himself a good first inning, giving up a double to Thames and hitting Travis Shaw on an ominous play where Shaw told the umpire he got hit and was awarded first base. Yet, two runners were on with two outs in the first, and once again all hell broke loose. Severino gave up a three run home run into the right field bleachers off the bat of Domingo Santana to make it 3-0 Brewers after one.

Severino would settle down over the next couple of innings, with seven of his nine outs coming from the strikeout. The Yankees were held without a hit through three innings for the second time in the last three games, and would not get that elusive first hit until Clint Frazier knocked a base hit with two outs in the fifth. The Frazier single would not lead to anything though, as Austin Romine struck out swinging to end the fifth with the score remaining at 3-0.

Severino would continue his dominant form from the second inning on, keeping the Yanks in the game while the offense remained unproductive throughout the day. Severino finished his outing with a strikeout, his tenth of the day and the fourth time this season he has registered 10 or more strikeouts in a game.

The Yanks would finally get a rally going in the bottom of the seventh, as a Chase Headley double and a Jacoby Ellsbury single put runners on the corner with only one out. The Yanks would run into some good luck for a change, as starting pitcher Brent Suter threw the ball past Thames at first on an attempted pickoff move, scoring Headley and moving Ellsbury to third and putting the Yankees on the board.

Frazier would keep it going with a bullet to left field that was feet away from being his first home run at Yankee Stadium. Instead, Frazier settled for his second triple in as many games, and making it a 3-2 game, and ending Suters day, who was tremendous all game long.

Milwaukee reliever Jared Hughes came in for Suter, and got pinch hitter Ji Man Choi to ground out and Ronald Torreyes to pop out down the first base line to keep the score at 3-2 headed to eighth inning. Dellin Betances had a nice rebound outing in the eighth, striking out two batters and getting some help with a great diving play by Choi.

The top of the order was due up in the bottom of eighth, yet went down in order, sending the game to the ninth with the score remaining 3-2. Aroldis Chapman would come on to pitch in the ninth in a non save situation, and would strike out the side in order to give the Yankees one last chance against the tough Brewers closer Corey Knebel.

Didi Gregorius led off the ninth with a walk, but would be followed by Headley who struck out swinging on a breaking ball in the dirt. Ellsbury would mimic Didi with a walk of his won on four pitches, putting runners on first and second and bringing the youngster Fraizer to the plate, who already had two hits on the day. Frazier would come through in a big way, sending a fastball into the left field seats and giving the Yanks the 5-3 victory.

This was Clint’s first home run at Yankee Stadium, and one he and the fans in attendance will never forget. Frazier seemed almost stunned in his post game interview, at a loss of words of what he had just done. The Yanks will attempt to win their first series in a month tomorrow afternoon, as Masahiro Tanaka looks to keep his hot streak going.
