BBB Reactions to the humiliating ALCS loss to the Astros

Image
The Yankees will be watching the World Series from their couches for the 13th consecutive season, Aaron Judge is a free agent with no guarantee of his return, the Yankees are the laughingstock of the league this week after playing an embarrassing 2004 Red Sox ALCS comeback montage as motivation from their own 3-0 ALCS deficit.  Oh yeah, and did we mention we lost to Houston AGAIN?  Things are very-bad, no-good in Yankeeland right now as we embark on another offseason of frustrations and questions about where things went so wrong.  The writers of the BBB each weigh in on the state of the team and the franchise as a whole. ICYMI @RealMichaelKay went off on the #Yankees for their tone deaf “motivational” tactics prior to getting swept in the ALCS. pic.twitter.com/LPceBpzwmx — Bronx Bomber Ball (@BronxBomberBall) October 24, 2022

Bronx Bomber Babble ALCS Post Mortem

Image
Hello darkness, our old friend. Another failed postseason. Another infuriating defeat at the hands of the Houston Astros. Another offseason of questions that lies ahead .  In our first of a few 2022 recap pieces, the boys of the Bronx Bomber Babble Podcast break down a few burning questions for this team as we head into the offseason and look ahead at the state of the franchise that has lost their way and still hasn’t been able to solve the October riddle.   Photo Credit: MLB.com

ALCS Update after Game One: We still hate Aaron Boone

Image
The Yankees dropped Game One of the 2022 American League Championship Series last night in predictable fashion - an offensive no show at the mercy of Justin Verlander, but more frustratingly, because of the bullpen mismanagement of manager Aaron Boone.  Thoughts below from some of our writers as we react to the moves Boone made not just last night, but throughout his Yankees tenure. BBB Reacts to Yankees early October exit and the renewal of Aaron Boone's contract

Image
The New York Yankees entered the 2021 season as World Series favorites but struggled through mediocrity and general malaise over the course of the entire season before fizzling out well short of their goal in the American League Wild Card Game at the hands of hated rivals Boston Red Sox.  Two weeks after their playoff elimination, it was announced Manager Aaron Boone's contract would be renewed for three more seasons with a fourth-year option.  Writers of the BBB weigh in on both below:   Photo Credit: Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post

Series Recap: Yankees sweep the Red Sox and move back into a playoff position

Image
Well, what a difference a month makes. On the fourth of July the Yanks were a .500 baseball team, while the Red Sox had the best record in the A.L. Fast forward to now and the Yanks are a full game ahead of the Red Sox after completing a three-game sweep of their arch rivals in the Bronx. As usual, none of the three wins were easy and all three games seemed to be heading off the rails at one point or another. However, a win is a win and the Yanks just keep getting it done, improving their record to 23-9 since the All-Star break.

Gardner Grand Slam Lifts Yankees over Boston

Image
The Yankees and the Red Sox have both had rough starts to the season, yet the Yanks were the team in this series that found themselves getting back to their winning ways over this two game set. The Yanks blew out the Sox on Tuesday night, and on Wednesday night they had to come from behind to win it, which they did, fueled by a late Brett Gardner grand slam as the Yanks completed the two game sweep with a 5-3 victory. Photo Credit:: AP Kathy Willens   JA Happ had the ball for the Yankees in this one and early on it looked like yet another horrible start for the lefty. J.D Martinez took Happ deep in the first for a solo shot, and Christian Vazquez sent a two-run shot over the right field wall to give the Red Sox a 3-0 advantage in the second. Happ would settle down however and not allow another run, going six and a third and most importantly keeping his team in the game. Yankees Cruise to Opening Day Victory

Image
The 2019 season could not have started much better for the Yanks. It was a beautiful day in the Bronx, the weather was perfect, the Yankees were back, and they had the perfect opponent in front of them; the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles lost 115 games last season, and it appears that they will reach that mark once again this season. The Yanks made the most of this, and were clicking all day, as they win the first game of the year by the score of 7-2.  The Yankees set the tone in the first inning, as Judge and Stanton both got base hits, to set up the clean up hitter Luke Voit. Voit was a great story last year, but there were no guarantees that Voit would continue to be that guy. Well, Voit showed that he’s still the guy, as he blasted a three-run home run into Monument Park, to give the Yankees an early 3-0 lead.

Cessa, Yanks Fall Flat to Tampa 6-1

Image
Wednesday night in the Bronx was not a good time to be in a Yankee uniform, as the Rays jumped on the Yanks early and defeated them 6-1. In a game that was started by the infamous Luis Cessa, the Yanks just never seemed to get things going, especially after leaving the base loaded early in the game. The loss kept the Yanks an even .500 on the year against Tampa, and it marked the seventh loss in the last nine games to Tampa. The lone run of the game for the Yanks came in the second inning, as Miguel Andujar lined a ball into the left field seats for his 19th homer of the season to tie the game at one. The Yanks would immediately give up this lead, however the fourth inning saw the Yanks knock out Tampas starter and have the bases loaded with one out. With the bases juiced, Romine struck out and Toe was originally ruled safe on an infield single but was shortly ruled out after replay showed he did not beat the throw. The Yanks wasted their best opportunity of the night and it came...

Is Chris Archer worth pursuing for the Yankees?

Image
With less than 24 hours until the trade deadline, the Yankees find themselves still in the midst of a number of high profile trade rumors, with some more enticing than others. The Yanks have been linked with two different groups at this point: pitchers and rumblings about a bat to help reduce the suffering of Gary and Judge being on the DL. However, for this article we will focus on the Yanks possible need for pitching, being in the mix for both starters and relievers. Big names such as Cole Hamels and Brad Hand are off the market, and with the Nationals and Dodgers both extremely unlikely to deal their aces, focus must be shifted elsewhere, as the clock is quickly ticking. Brian Cashman has been up to his usual chats he has with executives round the league to gauge interest in his players, and despite recently acquiring J.A Happ from Toronto, you can never put it past him to make yet another move if he hears a package to his pleasing.

Yankees Split Doubleheader with Kansas City

Image
It is often said that it is extremely difficult to win both games of a doubleheader, no matter how below average the team you are playing is. That has been the case for the Yanks, as they have split all of their doubleheaders this season including the one on Saturday against the Royals, losing the first game 10-5 while edging out the night cap 5-4. It was an eventful day in the Bronx to say the least that saw Severino continue to struggle, Zach Britton lose the strike zone, C.C take a tumble and Neil Walker having his best day as a Yankee. Yanks Light Up Kluber; Take Series Opener in Cleveland 7-4.

Image
Thursday night in Cleveland featured a match up of two of the best pitchers in the A.L. Members of the All-Star team, and both the respective aces of their staffs, Luis Severino and Corey Kluber are downright filthy, and it was expected to be a pitcher’s duel when the two faced off in a rematch of the ALDS last year. Yet, it did not work out quite that way, as each pitcher had to work through trouble throughout, and at the end of the night it was the Yanks who came out on top behind seven extra base hits to take the series opener 7-4.   Photo Credit: AP Tony Dejak Severino did not look sharp in his last outing on Saturday, and it was nearly an identical performance on Thursday. Sevy was in trouble right away, allowing several hard hits in the first before ultimately allowing an RBI single to A.L MVP candidate Jose Ramirez and a home run to Edwin Encarnacion to give Cleveland an early 2-0 lead. Kluber looked on point through the first two innings, retiring the first six ...

Big First Inning Fuels Yanks over Jays as Sevy Gets Win Number 14

Image
The opening game in this series on Friday was plagued by another poor Sonny Gray performance, yet the Yanks had reason for optimism on Saturday, as their ace Luis Severino was on the hill. The optimism was well deserved, as Severino added to his MLB league lead in wins, picking up number 14 and riding a big performance by the offense as the Yanks took this one 8-5.   Photo Credit: AP Fred Thornhill The Canadian Press The game began with a bang, as Brett Gardner and Aaron Judge went back-to-back to start off the game, putting Blue Jay starter and possible future Yankee J.A Happ on the ropes, as many viewed this as an unofficial audition for his possible new team. However, Happ would continue to pitch subpar, completely losing the strike zone and would not even make it out of the third inning. Brandon Drury added in on the fun in the opening frame and ripped a two-run double to give the Yankees four first inning runs.    Photo Credit: AP Fred Thornhill The C...
