Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, and Dellin Betances make appearances in the 2017 ASG in the AL’s 2-1 victory

The Yankees had five All-Stars selected to the 2017 Midsummer Classic, which was their most since 2011. Starlin Castro was unable to play, due to his hamstring, but Aaron Judge, Dellin Betances, and Gary Sanchez received playing time in the American League’s 2-1 win in extra innings (the player that hit the home run to win the game, Robinson Cano, was Castro's injury replacement). Unfortunately, Luis Severino did not pitch in the game. Here is the breakdown of each player’s performance:

Aaron Judge 0-3 K, ground out to shortstop, fly out to center field
Aaron Judge was the only player to start for the Yankees, and after his Homerun Derby heroics, it would be hard to repeat his incredible feats. Judge ended up going hitless in his three at-bats, but showed good plate discipline in his plate appearances and hit the ball hard. Judge’s best at-bat was his first against Max Scherzer, as he worked a full-count, before a nasty slider struck him out. Even though his night was very uneventful, the humbled Aaron Judge looked to be having a great time and truly embraced the moment.

Dellin Betances 1 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 0 R, 2 Wild Pitches, 2 K
Dellin Betances was the second Yankee to get playing time in the game and was the second pitcher for the American League. Zack Cozart led off the inning with a single, and after two quick strikeouts of Charlie Blackmon and Giancarlo Stanton, Betances did what he does best and made things interesting for the fans in Miami. He surrendered walks to Bryce Harper and Buster Posey and two wild pitches, before getting Daniel Murphy to ground out to third base to end the threat. It was a very shaky outing for Betances, but he got the job done.

Gary Sanchez 0-2 ground out to second base, K
Gary Sanchez entered the game as the second catcher for the American League. His first at-bat resulted in a weak ground ball that was hit right into the National League shift for an easy out. His second at-bat was with a runner in scoring position versus Kenley Jansen, in the ninth inning. El Kraken had a very impressive at-bat and fouled off a lot of tough pitches against an elite pitcher, but lost the fight, as he struck out on a 3-2 count. Sanchez was charged with a passed ball on a very high Craig Kimbrel offering in the ninth inning, but also saved Kimbrel of a wild pitch with an impressive block.
