Yankees injury news: Tyler Austin to begin rehab assignment in AAA tomorrow
Amid
all the trade rumors swirling around the Yankees, internal options are on the
horizon of returning to the Major League team. One of them is 1B/OF Tyler
Austin who is set to start his rehab assignment on Tuesday for Triple-A
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre per Joel Sherman. Austin injured his hamstring not long
after his return from his foot injury which he had sustained in Spring Training.
Austin’s return will put the Yankees in an interesting scenario with their roster makeup. With Cooper and Headley platooning at first base and the surplus of outfielders on the Yankees, Austin’s spot on the team is not nearly as clear nor needed as much as it was in June. Austin will likely play games for Scranton until his DL stint is over and a decision will have to be made.
Austin was batting .154/.200/.385, before he was placed on the disabled list.
