  New York Post/Getty Images After missing the last month and a half due to knee surgery from a left meniscus tear suffered during spring training, the reigning MLB home run king approaches his 2021 debut in Tampa next week against the Rays. His presence could provide an extra jolt to a Yankees lineup that has shockingly struggled to begin the season. Luke Voit finished the 2020 regular season with an MLB leading 22 home runs, a slash line of .277/.338/.610, and an OPS of .948 which is comparable to the red-hot Giancarlo Stanton. A New York roster lauded for its outstanding depth from the 1 to 9 spots in recent years can't seem to get any production outside of the top of the lineup. Especially from the first base spot that has seen a rotation of DJ LeMahieu, Mike Ford, and the now retired Jay Bruce, with the latter two combining for a paltry .100/.086/.267 and 6 RBIs, to 20 strikeouts. I’ve had the pleasure of owning the title of Yankees Fan since age seven, when I stayed up past my bedtime to watch the 1996 World Series with my dad while my mom fell asleep on the couch.   Tino Martinez was one of my first crushes.   Hearing the name Jimmy Key still brings tears to my eyes.   Joe Torre was one of my childhood heroes.   I watched the Don Zimmer brawl in shock while rooting for him the entire time.   I remember why Curt Schilling became known as “Ole’ Ketchup Sock” (you can thank Yankees Facebook for that nickname).   And my dad and I were in attendance at Game Two of the 2009 World Series, where we reminded Pedro who his Daddy is.   In my time as a fan, I’ve certainly experienced my fair share of highs and lows with the Yankees, feeling for them, hurting with them, celebrating with them. Brian Cashman says Luis Severino needs Tommy John surgery. — Bryan Hoch (@BryanHoch) February 25, 2020 This hurts. After missing most of the 2019 season with a shoulder issue, Luis Severino's 2020 season has ended before it even began with the news today that he needs Tommy John surgery.  Last week it was reported that Sevy would be returning to New York for further testing after feeling stiffness in his forearm, and this morning Brian Cashman announced the worst possible outcome. In the announcement, Cashman said that the plan is to get the surgery done as soon as possible, as he is currently evaluating which Doctor he will utilize to perform the surgery. Remember when it seemed like someone was sustaining some sort of injury every night, and we could slowly and painfully feel our souls leaving our bodies as a result? Well, those days are over. With the activation of James Paxton this morning, the Yankees are slowly getting healthier. The Yankees have officially placed CC Sabathia on the Injured List with inflammation in his right knee.   This is the same knee that Sabathia had surgery on in 2014 and saw IL (then, the DL) time with in 2015, 2017 and 2018.   The Yankees will recall Nestor Cortes to take Sabathia’s spot on the roster. The Yankees will be forced to place yet another player on the Injured List, as Troy Tulowitzki suffered a calf strain during Wednesday’s game against the Tigers. The cause of the strain is unknown to this point; Tulo was simply replaced by Tyler Wade during the game and will be undergoing further testing. The Yankees may have won big last night against the Kansas City Royals, but suffered one of their most significant losses of the season when they lost Aaron Judge for at least the next three to four weeks to an ulnar styloid fracture after being hit by a pitch on his right wrist. This injury sent the Bronx Faithful into a panic; they conducted a candlelight vigil at Yankee stadium for their wounded outfielder, and everyone suggesting their ideas of how Brian Cashman and company should fill the enormous hole left by their gargantuan slugger.  AP

News broke yesterday that the Yankees’ 21-year-old second baseman, Gleyber Torres, would be sidelined until at least the All-Star Break with a right hip strain. Tyler Wade was speculated to be called up. and Jack Curry of YES confirmed this morning that Wade would be added to the 25-man roster and be active for this weekend’s series in Toronto.   Photo Credit: NY Post

After spending a month on the DL with a lingering headache problem, Brandon Drury has been activated and optioned down to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. Acquired from the Diamondbacks this offseason, Drury's injury forced him out of a spot early in the season. Photo Credit: Corey Sipkin The former Diamondback utility infielder was five-for-23 (.217) in eight games the first few weeks of the seasons with one homer and four RBIs. His demotion may be a bit surprising to some, but after Neil Walker has picked up his play recently there’s not much of a spot for Drury. To go along with Walker, the Yanks have Ronald Torreyes, Gleyber Torres, and Miguel Andujar in the infield, who have all excelled. The next causality that will likely be optioned down to Triple-A is Tyler Austin, once Greg Bird returns to action. Drury’s spot on the big league roster became taken once Torres and Andujar were called up, but if there’s any injury in the meantime, expect Drury to be called up...

This morning the Yankees recalled right handed pitcher Jonathan Holder from AAA Scranton. The corresponding move was veteran righty Adam Warren being sent to the 10-day disabled list with a right back strain. Holder made the Yankees opening day roster but struggled mightily in the Bronx posting a whopping 20.25 ERA in three games while posting a record of 0-1. Holder was sent down after his poor performance against Baltimore on April 6th. The 24-year-old righty will look to get things back on track in this weekend’s final two games against Toronto. After another New York Yankee was injured in today's loss against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Yankees have called up Spring Training standout Miguel Andujar to replace outfielder Billy McKinney on the 25-man roster, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com . Photo Credit: Charles Wenzelberg Last season, Andujar batted .315 with 16 home runs and 82 RBI while playing for the Yankees’ Double-A and Triple-A affiliates. Andujar only played in 15 games this spring, but during those games he slugged four home runs, batted .267, and had a tremendous .928 OPS. Critics of Andujar questioned whether he was ready defensively for the MLB; he struggled in the minors with consistency in the field, and while he has a very strong arm, he needs to work on his throws’ accuracy. The Yankees won’t have their starting first baseman on Opening Day due to yet another injury. Earlier, the Yankees announced that Greg Bird will undergo surgery on Tuesday to remove a small broken spur on the outside aspect of his right ankle. Yankees' manager Aaron Boone announced this afternoon that Jacoby Ellsbury is expected to  begin the 2018 season on the disabled list.  Ellsbury has been out since early March with an oblique strain.
