Gleyber Torres placed on 10-day DL, Tyler Wade recalled
News
broke yesterday that the Yankees’ 21-year-old second baseman, Gleyber Torres,
would be sidelined until at least the All-Star Break with a right hip strain.
Tyler Wade was speculated to be called up. and Jack Curry of YES confirmed this
morning that Wade would be added to the 25-man roster and be active for this
weekend’s series in Toronto.
Wade
did not show much improvement from his 2017 struggles to start 2018, despite a
solid spring training. It is not clear yet who will start at second base, but
Walker, Drury, and Wade will all see time at the position. Wade was recently
quoted along with Drury saying they did not belong in Triple-A, so this will be
an opportunity for both of them to prove they belong.
Ronald
Torreyes is still on the temporarily inactive list, due to his wife’s illness,
so Wade was summoned to fill-out the Yankees’ roster.
