Severino, Hicks clown Price as Yanks blast Red Sox 11-1 to take series

On Sunday Night Baseball, the Yankees, backed by Luis Severino, got to David Price early and often en route to a dominating 11-1 series-clinching win over the Boston Red Sox. With the win, the Yanks are once again tied atop the AL East standings with Boston.

After being shutout by Chris Sale on Saturday, the Bombers asserted themselves immediately with four runs in the first on a night where David Price probably wishes he had just stayed home and played Fortnite. The scoring got started when Aaron Judge hit a towering solo home run to dead central for his 22nd big fly of the season. The opening frame fireworks continued three batters later when Gleyber Torres clubbed a three-run home run to right field to put the Yanks up 4-0.

While it wasn’t needed, the offense wasn’t finished. The Yankees tacked on seven more runs thanks to four more home runs, three off the bat of Aaron Hicks. Hicks now has eight home runs in his last 15 games. The other home run was a special one, as it was the first career hit for 28-year-old Kyle Higashioka, who was 0-22 in his career beforehand. For David Price, his Bronx misery continued tonight. In five starts at Yankee Stadium as a Red Sox, Price is now 0-5 with a 10.44 ERA. Nice to see that $217 million contract working out for Boston.

The hefty run support was more than enough for Luis Severino, who was his usual dominant self once again. Sevy fired 6.2 shutout innings with six strikeouts. Following tonight’s performance, the Yanks’ ace now leads the American League in both wins (13) and ERA (1.98). The night was finished off by David Robertson, Dellin Betances and Aroldis Chapman, each of whom hadn’t pitched since Monday.

What’s Next?
The Yankees stay home and welcome the upstart, NL East leading Atlanta Braves for a three-game series at the Stadium. Game one features Jonathan “Lasagna” Loaisiga (2-0, 1.93 ERA) coming off the best start of his young career against Anibal Sanchez (3-2, 2.68 ERA), who is enjoying a nice bounce-back first season in Atlanta. First pitch is set for 7:05pm on YES.

 UPDATE D 11/18/15 We’ve all heard it: The Yankees aren’t likely to be big spenders this offseason. Hearing this makes me chuckle as the Yankees have the dollars to field a $500 million pay roll if they wanted to, but their dedication to winning just hasn’t been there since the passing of good ole’ George.
