MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees interested in Mike Moustakas to play first base

As Greg Bird continues to play below expectations and the Yankees remain 29th in Major League Baseball in first base production, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported this morning that the Yankees are one of a few teams who would consider moving the Royals’ third baseman, Mike Moustakas, across the diamond to play first base.

Moustakas is in the midst of a one-year, 6.5-million-dollar deal that expires at the season end. “Moose” has a mutual option for 2019, but the Yankees would in all likelihood let him go after the season ends to test free agency.

Along with being cheap, Moustakas is slashing .258/.312/.472 with 16 home runs and 18 doubles. His left-handed bat would be a welcomed addition to the Yankees’ lineup and he could utilize the short porch to climb back towards his home run total from last season where he clubbed a career-high 38 long balls.
