Yankees let freedom ring, as they blast past the Atlanta Braves 6-2

The day after a game in which the Yankees almost blew a 6-0 lead, CC looked like he was going to implode early with the bases loaded.  But after 19 pitches, he struck out the impressive Ronald Acuna Jr. to leave the bases loaded.

 There was no action till the bottom of the second.  Didi hit a double, and Bird drove him in with a clutch full count, two-out single to put the Yankees on the board first. This was vital as they have been struggling with RISP. The next inning, after a walk by Hicks, and single by Walker, Stanton hit a blast to right field making it 4-0.  What was also sweet was Michael Kay’s HR call, as he channeled his inner John Sterling (who celebrated his 80th birthday).

The Yanks were not done with the long ball just yet. Bronx Bomber Samurai Kyle Higashioka, hit another home run (three) to make it 5-0 Yankees.  In fact, he is the first Yankee to have his first three hits as home runs since Alfonso Soriano.

The Braves answered in the fifth on a fielder’s choice, and in the top of the sixth a solo HR by Camargo shortened the lead to 5-2.  CC then give up a double, and have to face Dansby Swanson.  What seemed like an easy victory, was now hanging in the balance.  CC reached his season high, 103 pitches thanks to Swanson.  But, it was CC who got the best of him after a nine pitch at bat.  This was CC’s last batter of the game.

Once again CC put the team on his shoulders, giving them another quality start with a depleted bullpen. How good has CC been as of late? In his last six starts, the Yankees are 4-2, he has a 2.09 ERA, only given up three HR, and an opponent BA of .253.

The top of the seventh saw Chad Green get into some trouble. After allowing the first two batters to reach base, he retired the next two.  A double steal, in which Brandon Drury made a nice play to save a potential run (Torres left the game in the fifth, Walker to second) now put more pressure on Green to get Suzuki out.  He was able to get him to line to Judge to end the threat.

Judge after striking out in his previous three plate appearances, sent a high bomb to right, to end the scoring for the day.  Then Betances and Holder held down the fort, securing a nice 6-2 series victory.  Yankees improve to 56-28, while the Braves fall to 49-36.

What’s next?
The Yankees are off today and will start a three-game series with the Blue Jays tomorrow.

 UPDATE D 11/18/15 We’ve all heard it: The Yankees aren’t likely to be big spenders this offseason. Hearing this makes me chuckle as the Yankees have the dollars to field a $500 million pay roll if they wanted to, but their dedication to winning just hasn’t been there since the passing of good ole’ George.
