Series Preview: New York Yankees @ Miami Marlins (8/21-8/22)

Image
The Yankees are coming off a nice three-game sweep of their division foe Toronto Blue Jays, while the Marlins are coming off a series victory over playoff contending Washington Nationals.   The last time these two met in early April, they split a two-game series, both games lopsided affairs. This left the Yankees at 8-8, good for third place in their division. Since that point, they have been the second best team in baseball, only the Red Sox have a better record.   The Yankees will be facing off against a pair of rookies, with no prior starts against them.

Happ strong in his return, Bombers blast five HRs in 7-3 win over Texas

Fresh off a series sweep in Chicago earlier this  week, the Yankees returned home to kick off a crucial 11 game homestand.  The  Rangers came into this game averaging seven runs per game since the  All-Star  Break, the best in all of baseball.  J.A. Happ made his first start since coming back from the now infamous Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease. It would be Happ’s night as he had the upper hand in this matchup. The Yankees got six strong from Happ and five long balls from the offense en route to a 7-3 victory.     Photo Credit: Al Bello/Getty Images

Luis Severino should start the All-Star Game for the American League

Right now, Didi Gregorius is the American League Most Valuable Player

Image
Right now, Didi is the AL MVP.  Not only does it have a good ring to it, there is a strong possibility Sir Didi will make it happen if his April numbers are any indication of the type of season he will have.  Coming into this year all the talk was about the Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Gary Sanchez. Didi had flown under the  radar all offseason, but after his torrid start to the season, has been anything but  unnoticed.   Photo Credit: Kathy Willens/AP Photo Didi Gregorius was just named AL player of the month for the month of April. How good was   he? He led the AL in  RBIs ( 30),  SLG ( .735), OPS (1.156), XBH (19), and was tied for first with   10 HR.   Two of his HRs (both three-run homers) and eight of those RBIs (career high) came on Opening Day, when he had an absolute slugfest of a game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Didi  was also at least top seven in the following major categories during the mon...

The Big Toe - New York's unheralded X-factor

Image
The big toe, as defined by the Healthline Medical Team,  “is one of five digits located on the front of the foot.”  Furthermore, the big toe’s function is to provide additional leverage when doing    everyday functions such as running or walking. The removal of this toe would cause the body to    have to retrain itself, so other muscles could perform these functions.
