Right now, Didi Gregorius is the American League Most Valuable Player
Right now, Didi is the AL MVP. Not only does it have a good ring to it, there is a strong possibility Sir Didi will make it happen if his April numbers are any indication of the type of season he will have. Coming into this year all the talk was about the Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Gary Sanchez. Didi had flown under the radar all offseason, but after his torrid start to the season, has been anything but unnoticed.

Didi Gregorius was just named AL player of the month for the month of April. How good was
he? He led the AL in RBIs (30), SLG (.735), OPS (1.156), XBH (19), and was tied for first with
10 HR. Two of his HRs (both three-run homers) and eight of those RBIs (career high) came on Opening Day, when he had an absolute slugfest of a game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Didi was also at least top seven in the following major categories during the month of April: third in WAR (2.2), seventh in BA (.327) and finally second in runs (23).
If you’re not impressed yet, let’s take a look on how he ranks among AL shortstops. He finished April first in HR, R, RBI, SLG, OPS, second in BA and OBP, and finally third in hits. Among all shortstops, a list in which Didi wasn't even considered top ten in all of baseball by some pundits, he led all shortstops in HR, R, RBI, SLG, and OPS. And oh yeah, he was just awarded with the AL Player of the Month Award for April.
With all the injuries, and the lack of production from Stanton, Didi has certainly filled the void
for this Yankees offense. Taking over Yankees legend Derek Jeter is a daunting task, but Sir Didi
has not only risen to the occasion, but has put up offensive numbers at the shortstop position that
Jeter never did.
