Yankees acquire catcher Wilkin Castillo from Long Island Ducks

The New York Yankees have purchased the contract of Wilkin Castillo, a catcher from the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Castillo played a total of 22 MLB games between 2008-2009 with the Cincinnati Reds. This season, he has hit .314 with two home runs and 12 RBIs in 20 games with the Ducks.

However, this isn’t Castillo’s first experience playing for the Yankees. In 2017, he played 59 games between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with three home runs, 13 RBIs, and 11 walks.

The Dominican Republic native has been assigned back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. It is unlikely that the 33-year-old will play in the majors anytime soon, but he will provide additional catching depth for the RailRiders.
