Over the course of the 2018 regular season, the Yankees saw a parade of minor league pitchers sent up from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to have a shot at The Show, due to injuries in the rotation and bullpen. I will admit, there came a point at which I could not even remember who was who. Chance Adams was called up to start in Boston late in the year. Tommy Kahnle was in the Majors… oh wait no, he is pitching in Triple-A, now he’s back, and now he’s gone. Domingo German experienced the ultimate baptism by fire when he just did not appear ready to be a major league starter. Following their victory against the Detroit Tigers on Friday, the Yankees announced a minor trade in the wee hours of Saturday morning. With several minor leaguers likely to join the big club in the coming days, the Yankees further bolstered their depth by acquiring SS Adeiny Hechavarria from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. To make room for Hechavarria on the 40-man roster, LHP Ryan Bollinger was designated for assignment. The Yankees limped into Chicago to kick off their series against the White Sox on Monday having lost five games in a row including an agonizing four-game sweep at the hands of the Boston Red Sox. Even though the Yankees have been struggling of late and they still will likely be without Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez for a few more weeks, they are now entering a favorable part of their schedule and the opportunity to get back on track is within their grasp. Fresh off a series win against the Kansas City Royals, the Yankees took on the Baltimore Orioles in the Bronx Tuesday night but it was a much different Orioles team than they had faced so far this season. The Orioles moved several key players before Tuesday’s trade deadline, including Yankee killers Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop. 1.       Yanks finish with a Wild Card spot The Yankees impressed to a 62-33 record in the first half and are currently on pace for over 100 wins. Unfortunately, the Red Sox are also in the AL East and happen to be playing at a historic pace. It’s nearly impossible for Mookie Betts and JD Martinez to keep up their unbelievable seasons, but with that being said, the Red Sox have gotten a lack of production from a lot of guys including Eduardo Nuñez, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Rafael Devers, while Chris Sale picked it up at the end of the first half of the season en route to starting another ASG. On the flip side, the Yanks have had injuries to many guys, but have also led the league in homers and gotten breakout seasons from rookies Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar along with a dominant bullpen. Today, the Yankees announced that they have optioned outfielder Clint Frazier back to Triple-A and recalled catcher Kyle Higashioka from Triple-A, as well as reliever Giovanny Gallegos before their series opening game tonight in Philadelphia. With Brett Gardner returning from injury, Clint Frazier is the odd man out in the Yankees outfield and will see more time with Scranton Wilkes-Barre for now. Now, I started writing this article before the injury to Masahiro Tanaka, so the Yankees’ need for a starting pitcher has changed in the last few days. When Domingo German originally joined the Yankees’ starting rotation back in early May, it was believed that he would have around two months to show what he could do as a fulltime starter before the return of Jordan Montgomery. That return is obviously not going to happen until next season and following the injury to Tanaka the Yankees need to acquire a starter appears greater than ever. The Yankees headed into game two of their double header with the Detroit Tigers on a five-game winning streak which included the day game of today’s two game set. Thanks to a rainout on April 15 th , the Yankees and the Tigers took the field with each player sporting number 42 jerseys to honor Jackie Robinson. The Yankees have announced that Tommy Kahnle has been activated and has rejoined the team in advance of Friday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels. Kahnle has been on the Disabled List since April 17 th with tendonitis in his right shoulder. Credit: Getty Images Before heading to the DL, Kahnle pitched to a 1-0 record with an unsightly 6.14 ERA. His velocity was noticeably down to start the season and Kahnle struggled as a result. Kahnle began a rehab assignment in Low A Charleston on May 21 st and progressed to Triple A on May 23 rd . The activation of Kahnle this afternoon was the final of a rash of moves the team made to prepare their roster for Kahnle's return today, and in all likelihood, Greg Bird's tomorrow.  Earlier today, the Yankees traded AAA catcher Erik Kratz to Milwaukee and released Adam Lind.  The team already vacated the necessary spot on the 25-man roster for Kahnle after calling up and then immediately sending down LHP Ryan Bolling...

The New York Yankees have purchased the contract of Wilkin Castillo, a catcher from the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Castillo played a total of 22 MLB games between 2008-2009 with the Cincinnati Reds. This season, he has hit .314 with two home runs and 12 RBIs in 20 games with the Ducks. Credit: Getty Images

The red-hot Yankees came into Globe Life Park in Arlington on Monday night and bombed their way to a win over the struggling rangers. Coming off that series opening win, the question heading into Tuesday was, how would the Yankees fare against Rangers ace (and potential Yankee trade target) Cole Hamels? The answer was not good, as Hamels was able to hold the potent Yankee offense in check and guide the Rangers to a 6-4 win in the middle game of this three-game set. The Yankees entered Monday night’s contest against the Twins coming off their first legit series win of the season. With prized prospect Gleyber Torres now manning second base in the Bronx, the Yankees would look to continue to build momentum while the struggling Masahiro Tanaka would look to rebound from a string of very poor outings. Coming off a great offensive effort on Monday night, the Yankees threw up a dud on Tuesday in the batter’s box and on the mound. In his last start out, Masahiro Tanaka started strong before fading badly in the fifth inning. Well this time out he didn’t even start strong before putting the Yankees in a bind. Couple that with an evening full of stranded base runners for the offense and you have exactly what tonight was, a very frustrating game that felt like one the Yankees played themselves out of from the start. Well, Opening Day 2018 is in the books and the Yankees took the field yesterday afternoon in Toronto to begin a campaign that will be ripe with expectation and intrigue. Wielding a deep and talented roster with a shiny new toy in the middle of it, new manager Aaron Boone was able to notch his first win (more coming on that later today) and help the Yankees snap an Opening Day losing streak that stretched all the way back to 2011.
