Bats M.I.A. as Yankees lose 2-1

Coming off their sweep of the red hot Seattle Mariners, The Yankees bats were left at sea as the Yanks fell to the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1.

It looked like it was going to be a long night for CC Sabathia, as he had the bases loaded in the first inning.  He was able to get out of the jam, and had two straight quick innings after that.  It wasn’t till the fourth, when things started to unravel. After surrendering a double, and then hitting a batter, the Rays got on the board with an RBI single by Willy Adames. However, that was the only damage in that inning as CC was able to get out of the jam.

The bottom of the fifth saw the highs and low of the Yankee defense.  CC’s throwing error allowed Matt Duffy to advance to second. Then misplays by Miguel Adujar and Didi Gregorius made it first and third with no one out. CJ Cron would be up next, and it looked as though the Rays would open up the floodgates, but Giancarlo Stanton had other plans.  A leaping catch would save multiple runs and limit to damage to only a run; the last for the Rays.

With momentum, the Yanks should’ve been ready to answer back.  But, they didn’t get any runners to cross home plate, till the seventh inning. A couple of bloop singles that found holes lead to the Yankees only run of the game.  As a matter of fact the Yankees were 1-9 with RISP in tonight’s game and only managed five hits against the Rays’ experimental six pitcher performance.

It was CC’s second straight start against the Rays, that he pitched well enough to get the win.  In 13 combined innings, he has only received two runs of support while only giving up five runs against them. 

What’s next?
The Yankees will back at it tomorrow for a late afternoon game as they send Sonny Gray to end their two game losing streak to the Rays.

 UPDATE D 11/18/15 We’ve all heard it: The Yankees aren’t likely to be big spenders this offseason. Hearing this makes me chuckle as the Yankees have the dollars to field a $500 million pay roll if they wanted to, but their dedication to winning just hasn’t been there since the passing of good ole’ George.
