Yankees MLB Draft 2018: Yankees select C Anthony Seigler from Cartersville HS with the 23rd pick of the first round
With
the 23rd pick of the 2018 draft, the New York Yankees have selected a switch-hitting
catcher named Anthony Seigler. Seigler was ranked 46th overall by MLB.com and
hit .429 with 13 HR and 16 SB as a senior in high school. As a switch-pitcher,
not a typo, he accumulated a 1.09 ERA
over 25.2 innings and had a 29:4 K:BB. He is committed to Florida, but he was
picked higher than projected and should sign with the Yankees right out of high
school.

Seigler
is a 5’11”, 200-pound 18-year-old from Cartersville, Georgia who impressed
scouts with his baseball IQ and fundamentals behind the plate. He features
sneaky power and speed as he had double digit stolen bases and homers in his
senior season. His best tools according to MLB.com are his throwing arm,
defense, and ability to put the bat on the ball.
He
started at catcher for the USA youth national team and has received rave
reviews on his pitch framing ability and quick transfer behind the dish. He is ambidextrous
and can pitch from both sides, but will likely remain behind the plate in the
Yankees’ system. He has received a skillset comparison to Austin Barnes of the
Dodgers due to his contact rate, athleticism, and ability to play anywhere on the field.
His
work ethic has been labeled as phenomenal due to his drive to achieve his
dreams of playing Major League Baseball. He should be a welcomed addition to
the Yankees’ farm system, and he was showing nothing but smiles at the MLBN MLB Draft live telecast.
