Roster moves and injury updates after a rough night
Coming off a tough 14
inning loss in
which they suffered numerous injuries and exhausted almost all of their roster
depth, the Yankees made the following moves this morning in advance of this afternoon’s
game:

CC
Sabathia was placed on the 10-day DL with a right hip strain. CC
left last night’s start after just four innings and underwent an MRI. The results
seemed to have come back clean and some last night felt optimistic that CC
would make his next start, but clearly they found something DL worthy when they
reevaluated the big man this morning. Hopefully this is a short-term situation
and CC will be ready to go in 10 days.
Brandon
Drury was placed on the 10-day DL with severe migraines.
Drury was replaced in the field by Ronald
Torreyes in the bottom of the sixth inning and we later found out that the
was experiencing migraines and blurred vision. A baseball field is a dangerous
place with clear vision or not so the Yankees will likely be cautious and
conservative with Drury until they are confident that this has fully passed.
Jonathan
Holder was optioned to Triple A Scranton Wilkes Barre and
the team recalled RHP Luis Cessa and
RHP Domingo German. Holder has had a rocky
beginning to his season and as the last man to make the roster and coming off
of a night where he threw a lot of pitches, he was the obvious candidate for
first to go. Its not often you see a pitcher give up a grand slam and have
their ERA go down but that’s where we’re at with Holder. Hopefully Cessa and/or
German prove more useful and hang around for a while. Both will likely be called upon to give the team some depth out of the pen before the weekend is up. Both were starters throughout the spring and are sufficiently stretched out should the team need a few innings. With an off day on Monday the team could opt to skip CC's next scheduled start but if they do not go that route one of these two will likely be making it, with the other serving as the long man.
The Yankees also signed INF/OF Jace Peterson to a major league
contract and selected him from Triple A Scranton/Wilkes Barre. Peterson’s
versatility as both an infielder and outfielder are a valuable thing to have
coming off a game that tested the team’s depth but he is likely just bench
depth at this point.
C Gary Sanchez was pulled from the game in the 14th inning after grabbing at his right calf after receiving a pitch from Jonathan Holder. We haven't heard anything else yet and it appeared to be nothing more than cramping. Hopefully he'll be fine after a day off but if this lingers for a few days it could be problematic and force a roster move.

INF
Tyler Wade left last nights game with what appeared to be an
injury and we later found out that he is sick and was experiencing flu-like symptoms.
I’d be surprised if we see him in there at all for Saturday’s game but with the
Yankees’ luck these days, keep your fingers crossed.
The Yankees and the Orioles
face off on Saturday at Yankee Stadium with first pitch at 1:05PM
