The Gleyber Torres Era Begins With a Win
Happy Gleyber Day! The Yankees finally called up their
top prospect, Gleyber Torres! Although Torres was unable to record a hit in his
debut, the Yankees were still able to pick up a win!
Didi Gregorius got the Yankees on the board early. With
two outs in the first inning, Gregorius smacked the 1-1 pitch from Jaime Garcia
into the seats in right to quickly put the Yanks up 1-0.

One inning later, the Yankees were at it again. With two
outs and two on, Austin Romine came to the plate. He laced a two run double down
the right field line to give the Yankees a three run lead.
As for Luis Severino, he was dealing. The Blue Jays were
unable to do anything offensively until the sixth inning. With one out,
Severino served up a solo home run to Teoscar Hernandez, cutting their lead to
two.

The Yankees got that run right back in their half of the
sixth when Miguel Andujar doubled home Gary Sanchez. Gregorius then added a
sacrifice fly in the seventh.
David Robertson came on in the eighth to relieve Luis Severino, who had pitched seven strong innings. Robertson made quick work of the Jays and then handed the ball off to Aroldis Chapman to finish the job. Although Chapman walked a couple of batters, he managed to get the job done and close out a Yankees' 5-1 victory.
With his four hit performance today, Miguel Andujar is now 13 for his last 24 with ten extra base hits to go with his seven runs and RBIs. As a whole, the Yankees win their first series since their home opening two game set against the Rays. They will look to carry this momentum into tomorrow as they try for their third win in a row.
