Yankees send Voit, Hale to IL

As we approach the Trade Deadline this afternoon, the Yankees have placed 1B Luke Voit and RHP David Hale on the 10-day IL, calling up INF Breyvic Valera and RHP Jonathan Holder to take their spots.

Voit heads to the IL for the second time this season due to a sports hernia. Manager Aaron Boone stated it’s possible Voit gets surgery for it and if so, he’d be likely to miss at least six weeks. The first baseman has hit .278 with 19 homers and 54 RBIs in his first full season with the Yanks. David Hale, one of the unsung heroes of the 2019 Yankees, goes to the Injured List with a lumbar spine strain. The right-hander has gone 3-0 with a 2.89 ERA in 19 outings this season.

Valera, a utilityman formerly of the Giants and Orioles, made a brief major league stint earlier in the year, going 1-for-3. Holder, a staple in the 2018 Yankees bullpen, has struggled to a 6.63 ERA and 67 ERA+ this season for the pinstripes in 36.2 innings.
