BREAKING: Luis Severino needs Tommy John Surgery
Brian Cashman says Luis Severino needs Tommy John surgery.— Bryan Hoch (@BryanHoch) February 25, 2020
This hurts. After missing most of
the 2019 season with a shoulder issue, Luis Severino's 2020 season has ended before it even began with the news today that he needs Tommy John surgery.
Last week it was reported that Sevy would be returning to New York for further
testing after feeling stiffness in his forearm, and this morning Brian Cashman
announced the worst possible outcome. In the announcement, Cashman said that
the plan is to get the surgery done as soon as possible, as he is currently
evaluating which Doctor he will utilize to perform the surgery.

2017 was Sevy's breakout year
where he earned himself a 2.98 ERA in 193.1 innings and finishing third in Cy
Young voting. He followed it up with another solid year in 2018, with a 3.39
ERA in 191.1 innings, before only pitching 12 innings at the end of the season
in 2019. The timetable is still unknown, although most TJS recoveries span
about 14-18 months for pitchers. Here's to wishing Sevy a speedy and successful recovery.

And apparently we did not know last September that he needed Tommy John surgery because we didn't dig into it deep enough
