MLB trade rumors: Yankees to look into Yu Darvish trade

The Yankees are very much in the market for starting pitching, and with the Texas Rangers likely becoming sellers, the Yankees may take a hard look at Yu Darvish, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

The Rangers currently sit at 45-50, and as losers of five straight, the club looks like they are quickly becoming sellers. They currently sit 18 games out of the AL West, and 4.5 games out of the second Wild Card spot. As for selling, it was reported yesterday that they were gaining interest in the services of Darvish, and the Yankees may become one of those potential suitors.

Darvish, who is set to turn 31 about two weeks after the trade deadline, was named to his fourth career All-Star team this year. Darvish has excelled since returning from Tommy John Surgery, as he is 6-8 this season with a 3.45 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and a .220 batting average against, which ranks fifth in the American League.

The Yankees have also been linked to Sonny Gray of the Athletics as the A's have reportedly named their price for the 27-year-old starter. The Yankees are interested in the young righty due to his team control through 2019, but they are concerned with his injury history and past inconsistencies.

Brian Cashman was also in on Jose Quintana due to his durability but after missing out on him, they may look for a rental in Darvish who is set to be a free agent at the end of the season.

Cashman is certainly not willing to give up top prospects for a rental, so the asking price will become the determining factor in whether these talks gain any steam in the week and a half until the trade deadline. For now, this is something to keep an eye on.
