MLB Trade Rumors: The Yankees are showing interest in LHP Jaime Garcia
The
entire baseball world was set on the fact that Jaime Garcia would be sent to
the Minnesota Twins earlier this week, but it fell through due to a concern
over the health of one of the players that would have headed back to Atlanta.
The Twins and Braves still have mutual interest, but the market has now
expanded beyond Minnesota for Garcia’s services. According to FanRag Sports’
Jon Heyman, the Yankees are one of five or six teams that have a drawing
interesting in the southpaw.
Garcia
is not having one of his better seasons as he is sporting a 4.30 ERA and is
barley maintaining his career worst strikeout to walk ratio. However, when
healthy, he has proven to be able to give quality innings and give his team a
chance to win on a nightly basis. He has postseason experience and would give the Yankees another
veteran to add to their young pitching staff. Garcia would not cost a top prospect as
he isn’t an ace and would only be a rental for the remainder of the season.
With the Yankees loaded system, they would in all likelihood not have to give
up one of their top ten prospects in exchange for Garcia.
The
Yankees could pull a similar move to their previous trade with the White Sox
and fill another gap in the team by including 1B Matt Adams in a possible trade
with the Braves. The Yankees do not have a dire need for a corner infielder,
after the acquisition of Todd Frazier, but the possibility is not out of the
question.
