Yankees recall RHP Ben Heller from Triple-A, option RHP Domingo German

After the Yankees announced that Masahiro Tanaka would have his scheduled Sunday start pushed back to Monday, the Yankees announced that RHP Domingo German would be called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for Sunday's game. Most people, including Yankees media personnel, thought the roster move was made for German to make a spot start for the struggling Tanaka, but Joe Girardi elected to go with Chad Green. However, German was used on Sunday, and in an expected move, the Yankees PR has announced that he will be going back to Triple-A on Sunday, with Ben Heller being called up as the corresponding roster move.

Heading into Sunday's game, Green stated he could give the Yanks "a little more than 45 pitches," and that’s exactly what he did. After 2+ innings and 52 pitches, Green was pulled.

 In a game dominated by long relief, German saw the most action. He delivered 2.2 innings in relief and was very impressive. Scattering just two hits, his Major League debut was a success. But, the Yanks will let him develop a little more in Triple-A, using one of his minor league options as many expected.

Heller is the owner of a very respectable 2.60 ERA with the Triple-A squad in 27.2 innings pitched this season. Last season, he threw seven innings with the Yanks, allowing five earned runs. He has explosive stuff with a high 90's fastball and plus slider and seems to have improved since last season. He was one of the most impressive Yankee relievers in Spring Training this year with his 0.68 ERA, 12 strikeouts, and .200 BAA against in 13.1 innings.

Heller could make a huge impact right away in the bullpen. Expect to see him early in the Angels series, as the Yanks rolled out five different arms on Sunday in the series finale against the O’s.

Five keys to a successful 2016

Being trapped inside for the last two days due to the snowstorm that pounded the entire eastern seaboard has only enhanced my desire for the return of baseball season. Considering all indications from ownership point to the Yankees being done for the most part as far as additions are concerned, I felt as if now would be a prompt time to make some early predictions about the 2016 season. As I look at the Yankees team as currently comprised, I'm feeling the same sense of uncertainty as I did at this point last season. A successful 2016 season is contingent on production from players who are either old, injury prone, or in some cases, a combination of both. Normally, this would seem to be a recipe for disaster, however I'm going to try the optimistic route. Below, are what I view as the five keys to a successful 2016.
