Although the Yankees starting rotation was full of questionable marks entering the 2016 campaign, three of the five pitchers in the rotation on Opening Day have become consistent and at times, dominant. CC Sabathia, Masahiro Tanaka, and Nathan Eovaldi have all exceeded expectations and have performed extremely well. However, the same cannot be said for Luis Severino and Michael Pineda. Both have struggled heavily, with the Yankees losing in seven of Pineda’s ten starts this season. Even though the Yankees finally demoted the young Severino to Triple-A on Monday, Michael Pineda is still in line to make his next start on Thursday at Detroit. Given the lack of games the Yankees have won with Pineda starting, how successful batters are against him, and his increasing lack of control with the baseball, Pineda should be sent down to Triple-A to work out his issues. For the second consecutive time this season, the Yankees offense was silenced by the incredibly efficient Marco Estrada (3-2, 2.43 ERA). Coming off a game in which the entire team produced one hit, the Yankees couldn’t solve Estrada, as the right hander allowed just three hits. Nathan Eovaldi, with his fastball in the upper 90's, nasty splitter, plus slider and knee-buckling curveball, has spent his career figuring himself out since coming into the league in 2011. People around baseball have held onto the hope that he could transition from a ‘thrower’ to a ‘pitcher.’ After a strong finish to the 2015 season, and top-line showing thus far in 2016, Nathan Eovaldi looks like he is turning the corner, so it’s time we appreciate the pitcher he's becoming for the New York Yankees. After winning two of three in Tampa Bay, the Yankees head north of the border to take on the Toronto Blue Jays for a three game series. Last week, the Yankees dropped two of three to the Blue Jays in the Bronx. Therefore, this series would make for some sweet redemption. Currently, the Yankees are 24-25, good enough for fourth place in the AL East (it's better than last, right)? After defeating the Blue Jays 6-0 last Tuesday, the Yankees finally reached the .500 mark for the first time since early April. As they take on the third place Blue Jays, who enter the series at 26-26, the Yankees hope to once again get back to that magical .500, instead this time it would be nice to surpass that elusive winning percentage. The Yankees have certainly displayed some positives as of late, however it's imperative they continue the things they've been doing well, while contemporaneously rectifying some of weakness they've displayed before we can truly say they've put their disma

Javier Baez - Chicago Cubs IF Javier Baez wouldn't necessarily be my first choice in trade target, but in a lot of ways he does make sense for the Yankees to acquire. He's a young, versatile infielder who has seen time at 2B, 3B, and SS the last two years and was hyped as a prospect for his plus power potential. Since breaking into the Bigs, we haven't been disappointed in that power potential, but we have seen it comes at the cost of some pretty high strikeout rates. The young infielder has struck out 137 times in 387 ABs which makes his strikeout percentage an alarming 36%. That seems to be the norm in today's game though. Plus his ability to play multiple positions for the team would be huge. The team currently has Ronald Torreyes serving as their utility man, but after a hot start to the season has largely cooled off and doesn't seem to have a guaranteed future in the Bronx. Baez could fill in at the utility slot while providing plus offensive ability and

I'm subbing in to write the recap in an emergency capacity folks so this one is going to be short and sweet. I typically don't find pitching duels that entertaining, but this one was a treat. This game at Tropicana Field featured Yankee starter Nathan Eovaldi against Jake Odorizzi and both were on top of their game this afternoon. Eovaldi and Odorizzi exchanged zeroes until the bottom of the third inning. Eovaldi allowed a sharp single up the middle from Brandon Guyer that Starlin Castro couldn't quite corral with one out. After a groundout to first, Guyer moved to second and two outs were on the board. The wheels then started coming off, as a wild pitch allowed Guyer to move to third, then Evan Longoria knocked him in with a single to right. Eovaldi wouldn't allow another run after that.

Michael Pineda was hit hard again, and the Rays jumped on him early and often to take Saturday’s mid-afternoon game, 9-5. There were many questions coming into the game about Carlos Beltran’s dominance at the plate as a DH, and whether his move back to right field would hurt the team, even as A-Rod returned.

The scorching hot New York Yankees were smothered this week, dropping the final two games of a three game set against the Toronto Blue Jays. Just half a game ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays, who are in last place in the AL East, the Yankees enter a pivotal three-game weekend series against their division foe. They'll face three tough pitchers, starting with the top of the Rays rotation in Chris Archer, Matt Moore and Jake Odorizzi. But, Yankee starting pitchers have been pitching to their potential as of late, and they too will have their top three starters in the rotation toeing the rubber this weekend in Masahiro Tanaka, Michael Pineda and Nathan Eovaldi.

After the Yankees 3-1 loss today to the Toronto Blue Jays, the team announced the unconditional release of OF Slade Heathcott, per Chris Cotillo ( @chriscotillo on Twitter ). With the call-up of Richard Bleier, there were 41 players on the 40-man roster for the Yankees, so either someone would have to go from the 15 to 60-day DL, or be designated for assignment. Building off of his last start in Arizona where he retired the last 18 batters he faced, Eovaldi (5-2, 3.95 ERA) worked out of trouble in the second and third innings to pitch six scoreless innings to extend his streak of scoreless innings to 11.1.

This offseason, Aroldis Chapman was suspended for 30 games due to an alleged domestic abuse incident in a circumstance that he was not actually even charged with. So, Chapman served his 29 game suspension (it was reduced one game thanks to a rain out), and he made his return on May 9. The Yankees were 11-18 when Chapman returned on that date. Since then, the team is now 21-22, 10-4 since his return  – the best record in the American League over the last two weeks . And although Chapman has been lights out in his save opportunities, the spark he has provided isn’t completely due to his performance, but rather, his presence. Fresh off sweeping the A's in Oakland, the Yankees look to build on their recent success as they host the Blue Jays for three games in the Bronx this week. After dropping two straight to the Diamondbacks, the Yankees managed to salvage the series finale before winning four in Oakland, thus contributing to their five game winning streak, their longest of the season. As of Sunday, the Yankees officially pulled themselves within one game of .500, while simultaneously digging themselves out of the AL East's cellar, which currently belongs to our upcoming opponents: the Toronto Blue Jays. As of now, things are finally beginning to look bright in the Bronx, so it's imperative that we continue these winning ways and capitalize on an opportunity to defeat a struggling Blue Jays team.

Although it was an infield single with the shift on, the grounder to shallow right field was enough to score Gardner, who ran on contact from second with two outs. Starlin Castro followed Teixeira with a RBI single to center off of Oakland's Jesse Hahn and the Yankees took the lead for good, 4-3.

The Yankees earned their first three game win streak of the season last night after a 8-3 victory over the Athletics last night in Oakland. CC Sabathia picked up the win for the Bronx Bombers in his first start off the DL, besting Oakland’s Sonny Gray. Today’s game saw Masahiro Tanaka against the southpaw Sean Manaea, who came into today’s game toting a hefty 7 plus ERA. Tanaka has struggled in his last two outings, but the Yankees offense led by the suddenly red-hot Jacoby Ellsbury should tee off on the Athletics once again. Last night, the Yankees came out on top with a 4-1 win over the Athletics. Ivan Nova looked great through 6 innings and the three-headed monster in the bullpen, with Betances in the 7th, Miller in the 8th, and Chapman in the 9th was able to finish it off. CC Sabathia returned from the DL today to face off against Sonny Gray in game 2 of the series. There's been a lot of speculation that the Yankees might be sellers of what little they have at the deadline this year and that doesn't seem unreasonable. The team sits at 18-22 and are 6.5 back of the division and 4.0 back (at the time of this writing) of a wild card spot. Sure, there's still a chance, but anyone who's watched this team a good amount this year can see that they just don't seem to be a legitimate contender. With that said, could the almighty Yankees actually sell at the deadline? It's certainly a possibility. The problem is the team doesn't really have much on the big league roster to sell. Mark Teixeira has full no trade rights and has stated he will not waive them. Carlos Beltran is providing serviceable offensive production, but with his age and defensive ineptness, his value is still very limited. The Yankees came into Thursday’s series opener with the Oakland Athletics looking to build off of the momentum from last night’s 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks.  The Yankees sent Ivan Nova (2-1, 3.70 ERA) to the mound, who is coming off perhaps his best start of the season last weekend against the White Sox. He allowed four hits and one earned run in 5.2 IP. Over his previous two starts, Ivan Nova has surrendered only two runs over 10.1 innings. The Oakland Athletics countered with Kendall Graveman (1-5, 5.84 ERA), a 25 year-old RHP, who has found himself in the midst of a rocky start to the 2016 campaign. After traveling to Arizona and dropping 2 of 3 games to the Diamondbacks, the Yankees are set to continue their west coast road trip this weekend with a 4 game series with Oakland. Now just a half game behind Toronto in the cellar of the AL East, the Yankees will look to win this series and get out of last place in the division. Aside from the previous series, the Yankees have been playing pretty solid baseball of late, and this weekend is a great opportunity to continue their recent success.

Charleston RiverDogs: 24-14 (1st in South Atlantic League Southern Division Standings, 4.5 game lead) Overall : The Charleston RiverDogs have built a sizeable lead in the SAL Southern Division standings thanks to contribution from solid prospects, and prospects that are not very familiar names. Still, this is one of the most solid class-A teams with many guys that will surely reach Tampa this year, and some that will be knocking on the door to Double-A Trenton by season’s end. They are  over performing  their preseason expectations, but with the depth of their roster, there is not any reason they can't sustain the success they've enjoyed thus far in 2016.

After losing 12-2 on Monday, the Yankees lost Game 2 of this three-game series at Arizona by a score of 5-3. Zack Greinke pitched well over seven innings, and Michael Pineda struggled again, giving up five earned runs on nine hits in just five innings. In the top of the ninth, the Yankees were able to get the tying run to the plate in Didi Gregorius, but he grounded out to second to end the game. The Yankees came into Tuesday night’s game following an embarrassing 12-2 loss at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The box score of that game was rough in a game that the Yankees felt like they had to have to win the series. With Michael Pineda squaring off against Zack Greinke in game two, things looked bleak from the beginning of game two. Tampa Yankees: 23-15 (2nd in Florida State League North Division Standings, 2.0 games back) Overall : Just as the common trend with the Yankee farm system, the Tampa Yankees are one of the more talented teams in all of high Single-A. They’ve got a great mix of star power and contributions from other unexpected sources. James Kaprielian going down with an arm injury likely jeopardized him making it to the MLB this season, but there are still healthy prospects in Tampa who appear to have bright futures.

Trenton Thunder: 19-16 (3rd in Eastern League Eastern Division Standings, 4.0 games back) Overall : Although the Trenton Thunder lack the Yankees top talent in the farm system, they have a solid team. Still, this Thunder team is comprised of Tyler Austin (#30 in our rankings), Cale Coshow (#27), Dustin Fowler (#7), Jonathan Holder (#22) and Tyler Wade (#14). They’re also getting contributions from others which has propelled them to their solid current standing.

It is now May 17, 2016 and the BBB is bringing you a long overdue minor league update. This is something I’ve been meaning to do for a few weeks now, but I anticipate it being a weekly update, probably to be released every Sunday afternoon going forward, so be sure to check in for the latest on the Yankees farm system. Here, we’ll be updating you on the team’s top prospects, standout players who are enjoying strong seasons so far, as well as those with high expectations that they are not fulfilling. Since it has been just over a month and this is our first update, this will be a 4-part series with updates on each individual team, starting in Triple-A. But following this week's update, I will be able to put them all into one article.

After a huge 7-5 win against the White Sox on Sunday afternoon, the Yankees traveled to Arizona to start a three-game series against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Chase Headley continued to play well; in his last six games, he has six RBIs, six hits, four runs, and two home runs. The Yankees sent Chad Green to make his Major League debut against Arizona's Robbie Ray. In Triple-A Scranton this year, Green went 2-3 with a 1.22 ERA, and allowed 29 hits in 37.1 innings, while striking out 36 batters. The Yankees acquired 24-year-old Chad Green from the Detroit Tigers this offseason in the Justin Wilson deal. After a dynamite start in triple-A, where he was 2-3 with a 1.22 ERA in seven starts (36 K in 37 innings), Green made his major league debut Monday night for the New York Yankees. Standing at 6’3” and weighing 210 pounds, Green threw 79 pitches across only four plus innings. The University of Louisville product also made his first plate appearances since high school and struck out twice. But although Green was not necessarily effective, he had solid moments to build on. Fresh off a series victory against the White Sox in the Bronx, the Yankees head to Arizona for a three game series with the Diamondbacks. The Yankees recently completed a relatively successful home stand, going 7-3. Throughout the course of those ten games the Yankees won 2 of 3 against the Red Sox, 3 of 4 against the Royals, and concluded by taking 2 of 3 from the White Sox. As they ready themselves to begin their first interleague series of the year, the Yankees hope to build on their recent success and finally make it make to .500 after a dismal start. Since the game will be played in a national league park, it's worth noting that the Yankees will be without a DH, providing the offense with another obstacle to consistent performance. With Aroldis Chapman back to complete the three-headed monster at the backend of the bullpen and a suddenly resurgent offense, there's plenty of reasons to feel more optimistic about this team than there were two weeks ago.

After losing 7-1 to Chris Sale and the White Sox in the series opener, the Yankees captured Game 2 of this three-game series by a score of 2-1. First, Dellin Betances struck out all 4 batters he faced, and then both Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman pitched scoreless outings to give the Yankees their 15th win of the season. Today, the Yankees sent Masahiro Tanaka (1-0, 3.11 ERA) to the hill to face Chicago’s Miguel Gonzalez (0-0, 4.91 ERA). As had been expected going into the 2016 season, the starting rotation hasn't necessarily been a strong point. Luis Severino has been flat out awful, however the inconsistencies of Nathan Eovaldi and Michael Pineda have been equally as troubling. While Eovaldi has shown signs of outright brilliance this season, Pineda has been flat out horrendous in most of his starts. I'm growing increasingly tired of hearing praise reaped upon Pineda's "stuff." At the end of the day, a pitcher's "stuff," is irrelevant. As Yankees fans, we need look no further than AJ Burnett's tumultuous tenure in the Bronx. I will admit Burnett was a huge part of the 2009 championship so the comparison may be flawed, however parallels can certainly be drawn between the two. Having been acquired from the Mariners in 2012, in exchange for then-highly touted prospect Jesus Montero, Pineda had high expectations to meet. As the Yankees 2016 campaign began, a familiar face was left out of the Yankees rotation. Ivan Nova accepted his role in the bullpen and knew eventually, his number would be called. He’s now made two consecutive starts for the Yankees and is quickly earning a spot in the rotation going forward. Before you jump all over me, yes, I’m aware it’s only been two starts, neither lasting longer than 81 pitches. That said, Nova has transformed himself into the picture perfect pitcher for Yankee Stadium. In his last two starts, he’s recorded 23 groundouts Although he doesn’t yet qualify for the category, Nova would be the league leader in ground ball to fly ball ratio at 1.87, 0.12 higher than the current league leader Marcus Stroman. After giving up seven earned runs in 2.2 innings, Luis Severino exited the game early with an injury, and an MRI after the game revealed a right triceps strain. Although the Yankees lost 7-1, the Yankees bullpen that took over after Severino left pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, led by 3.1 innings from Nick Goody. The Yankees sent Ivan Nova to the mound today to face Chicago’s Jose Quintana. Before the game, the Yankees called up Chad Green and Conor Mullee from Triple-A Scranton, sent Gary Sanchez back down to Scranton, and put Severino on the 15-day disabled list. After being pulled from the game with two outs in the third inning, Luis Severino underwent an MRI late Friday night and it revealed a mild right triceps strain. Severino will not pick up a baseball for 5-7 days, and therefore, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. In Friday’s game, Severino gave up seven earned runs in 2.2 innings and struggled with his command. The Yankees secured their series win last night with a 7-3 win over the Kansas City Royals. Chase Headley finally hit his first home run of the season while Didi Gregorius and Starlin Castro both homered off of former Yankee Ian Kennedy. Today the Yankees started a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox, who currently lead the American League Central. The White Sox sent Chris Sale (7-0, 1.79 ERA) to the mound while New York countered with the struggling Luis Severino (0-5, 6.12 ERA). Last night, the Yankees completed a series win over the defending World Series champions, the Kansas City Royals, by taking three out of four games. The Yankees won 7-3 thanks to a decent outing by Nathan Eovaldi, and then the Yankees bullpen took over, with Kirby Yates, Dellin Betances, and Andrew Miller retiring nine straight batters before the Yankees added two more runs off of Ian Kennedy and Chien-Ming Wang to win the game. Today, the Yankees will begin a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox, who currently lead the American League Central with a 23-12 record. The Yankees will look to use their dominant bullpen and resurgent offense to counter Chicago’s Chris Sale and Jose Quintana, two of the best American League starting pitchers this season. After a dismal Spring Training, Sanchez got into a grove in 26 games in Triple-A hitting .288 with 5 homers, 21 RBI and 11 doubles. After a tough loss last night to the Royals, the Yankees looked to win the series on Thursday night. The Yankees sent Nathan Eovaldi to the hill to face the former Yankee, Ian Kennedy, of the Kansas City Royals. Chase Headley came into this game with an RBI each in the last two games, and looked to build on that streak entering today. The three dominant pitchers in the Yankees bullpen all rested last night and will all be available today. Last night, after several lead changes and ties, the Yankees beat the Royals, 10-7. Aroldis Chapman picked up his first save as a Yankee. Today, the Yankees sent the inconsistent Michael Pineda to the hill to face Kansas City’s Yordano Ventura. Both Jacoby Ellsbury and Mark Teixeira remained out of the lineup as they continued to battle their respective injuries. The Yankees have won four of their last five games, dating back to last Friday, and looked to capture on their recent offensive success. With each passing game, we move closer to the end of CC Sabathia’s tenure with the Yankees. Sabathia’s contract comes off of the books after the 2017 season and there’s no chance the Yankees bring him back.
