In game two of this three-game set between the AL's top two teams, the Red Sox got to Sonny Gray early, and coasted to an easy victory behind an utterly dominant Chis Sale. The Boston bats were relentless all night, led by Rafael Devers and J.D. The Yankees came out against the Red Sox firing on all cylinders as the “best team in baseball” looked overmatch against their rivals from the Bronx. It was a mystery for much of Thursday as to who would be called up to the Yankees once Luis Cessa was sent back down after his start on Wednesday. The predicament that Drury has been in this season has been unique, yet unfortunate to say the least, as he has gone from being the Opening Day starting third baseman to being an everyday player in Triple A. Of course, the rise of Miguel Andujar at third did not help Drury, yet when a player such as Neil Walker is struggling and still on the roster, it makes you wonder as to why Drury has not gotten his second shot yet. The Yankees have a top-three farm system in all of baseball even with the graduation of a handful of players due to their contributions at the MLB level. The strength of their farm system at the moment is, by far, pitching. According to MLB.com’s rankings, 22 of the Yankees top 30 prospects are pitchers. With an influx of young offensive players becoming major leaguers in the Bronx in recent seasons, such as, Gary Sanchez, Aaron Judge, Clint Frazier, Greg Bird, Miguel Andujar, Tyler Austin, Tyler Wade, and Gleyber Torres, the Yankees’ front office has made it a point to try to build up their pitching depth and have successfully done so. Very few series in June feel this important. For the third time this year, and the second time in the Bronx, the Yankees will battle the Red Sox in a three-game series. Both teams have been fantastic this year, as both are coming into the series with the best two records in all of baseball. The Yankees had an off-day Thursday, and before that won a three-game series in Philadelphia, and the Red Sox are fresh off a series win against the Los Angeles Angels in Boston. So far this year the teams have split their six games, each winning two at home. The first series, which was in Boston, had a lot of drama, including a bench-clearing brawl started by Tyler Austin and Joe Kelly. With first place at stake, and tensions high, we should be in for a great series from the best rivalry in sports.

Baseball is one of the few areas in life where too much of one thing is usually good, and the Yankees certainly won’t be ones to complain about the depth of their relief pitching. New York’s bullpen has unsurprisingly been one of the best (most would argue the best) in baseball in 2018. Posting a 2.68 team ERA in 271.2 innings of relief, the Yankees have little room for any changes aside from perhaps finding a new left-hander to replace the struggling Chasen Shreve. Unfortunately for Tommy Kahnle, he throws with his right hand, and with the breakout success of fellow righty Jonathan Holder, the once highly-valued Kahnle may be stuck in no man’s land at Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. Last year Cashman acquired Sonny Gray, Jaime Garcia, David Robertson, Tommy Khanle, and Todd Frazier before the July 31st deadline, which helped drive the Bombers to game seven of the ALCS, but they gave up some of their better prospect in the process.
