Yankees MLB Draft 2018: Yankees select C Josh Breaux from McLennan Community College with the 61st overall pick

With the 61st pick of the 2018 draft, the New York Yankees have selected catcher Josh Breaux (pronounced BRO) from McLennan Community College in Texas. Breaux was the 71st ranked draft prospect on MLB.com and hit .404 with 18 home runs and 69 RBI as a Sophomore at McLennan this year. His best skill is his power bat. Breaux has also topped out at over 100 MPH on the mound, but the Yankees drafted him as a catcher.

The 6’1”, 220 pound catcher has a plus throwing arm, but must get better as a blocker and receiver of the baseball. According to scouts on MLB.com, he has improved over the last year in those areas. Breaux is the second catcher selected by the Yankees in this year’s draft after Anthony Siegler was taken 23rd overall.

Breaux's stock really improved after he finished fifth in the Cape Cod League with six home runs last summer. While his power and bat speed are undeniable traits, there are some questions about patience and approach at the plate.

Breaux is a 2019 Arkansas commit and was previously drafted by the Houston Astros in the 36th round of last year’s draft. It’s no secret that the Yankees system was thin on catchers, and the team has clearly prioritized restocking the cupboard at that position.

Five keys to a successful 2016

Being trapped inside for the last two days due to the snowstorm that pounded the entire eastern seaboard has only enhanced my desire for the return of baseball season. Considering all indications from ownership point to the Yankees being done for the most part as far as additions are concerned, I felt as if now would be a prompt time to make some early predictions about the 2016 season. As I look at the Yankees team as currently comprised, I'm feeling the same sense of uncertainty as I did at this point last season. A successful 2016 season is contingent on production from players who are either old, injury prone, or in some cases, a combination of both. Normally, this would seem to be a recipe for disaster, however I'm going to try the optimistic route. Below, are what I view as the five keys to a successful 2016.
