After winning a three-game series in the Bronx against the Houston Astros, the Yankees travel south to Baltimore looking to finish off their great month of May and start June off hot as well. New York (35-17) enters the series 2.0 games out of first place in the AL East, while the Orioles (17-39) sit in last place in the division by a wide margin. The Orioles have been held back by their weak starting rotation, and the stats show this: none of their four projected starting pitchers have an ERA below 4.30 (as of 5/31). Those ERAs may be even higher once this four-game series is over considering that the Yankees have the most dangerous lineup in the league. Coming off their MLB leading fifth win after trailing in the eighth inning, the Yankees looked to take the rubber game against the Houston Astros. Luis Severino looked primed to continue his incredible start to the season against the Astros, coming off a complete game shutout back in Houston. The teams traded leads to begin the night but broke the game open in the sixth off a Gary Sanchez single. The Bombers would tack on a few more runs and never look back as they won their second series against the reigning world champs this year.  (AP Photo/Frank Franklin II) The Bombers started off fast scoring in the first inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Giancarlo Stanton, giving the Yanks a 1-0 lead. The ball was ticketed for the gap but Jake Marisnick made a great play to limit the damage.   Severino came out firing, striking out three straight Astros, and retiring the first 11 batters he faced. Final Score: Yankees 6, Astros 5 The Yankees were trying to bounce back after being dominated by Justin Verlander last night, but subpar defense and another mediocre offensive output almost resulted in the Yankees losing the second game of this three-game set to Houston. However, the Yankees rallied in the ninth to tie the game at five runs, and Gleyber Torres walked the Yanks off in the bottom of tenth to seal a comeback victory. Gleyber Torres, the Yankees 21-year-old phenom, has been named the American League Player of the Week for the week of May 21-27. It is the first award won by the young second baseman, who has been in the big leagues for just five weeks. (Adam Hunger/USA Today) During the six-game span, Torres posted a slash line of .368/.429/1.158 to go along with five homers, five runs scored, and nine RBIs. On Friday night, he hit a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning which would prove to be the difference in the game. It was his fifth round-tripper in four games, and it carried historical significance. The blast made Gleyber the youngest player in American League history to homer in four consecutive games. He is also the fourth youngest player since 1900 to accomplish the feat, older than only Miguel Cabrera, Andruw Jones, and Albert Pujols. The last time the Yankees and Astros played at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees hammered Dallas Keuchel, en route to a 3-2 ALCS lead. They entered today’s Memorial Day hoping for more success, but unfortunately Justin Verlander and the Astros had other ideas. In the second series between the 2017 ALCS competitors, the Astros will travel to the Bronx to take on the Yankees. New York (33-16) and Houston (34-20) have the second and third best records in the American League respectively. Houston sports the best starting rotation in the league but has had some trouble in the back end with the bullpen. The Yankees will show off the best lineup in the league, one that goes one through nine with players that can beat you. The Yankees took three of four when these teams met in early May. Expect a back and forth series with a fair share of drama.

On a cold, dreary day in the Bronx, the Yankees, backed by Masahiro Tanaka, beat the Angels 3-1 to take the rubber game of a three-game weekend series. It was a solid, if unspectacular, bounce back effort for the Yanks after dropping last night’s contest, 11-4. Give credit to the Yankee front office; the Yankees have arguably the best present and future out of any team in baseball. Brian Cashman and his crew turned around the farm system seemingly overnight, producing the Baby Bombers we’ve grown to love. The past three years the Yankees have trotted out Rookie of the year caliber players, Gary Sanchez was runner-up in 2016, Aaron Judge was the unanimous winner in 2017, and Gleyber Torres is making his case in 2018. The Yankees took on the Los Angeles Angels on a beautiful Friday night in the Bronx with a sellout crowd of over 46,000. Luis Severino and Andrew Heaney faced off in a pitcher s' duel, but Gleyber Torres was  the difference maker in this game. The Yankees have announced that Tommy Kahnle has been activated and has rejoined the team in advance of Friday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels. Kahnle has been on the Disabled List since April 17 th with tendonitis in his right shoulder. Credit: Getty Images Before heading to the DL, Kahnle pitched to a 1-0 record with an unsightly 6.14 ERA. His velocity was noticeably down to start the season and Kahnle struggled as a result. Kahnle began a rehab assignment in Low A Charleston on May 21 st and progressed to Triple A on May 23 rd . The activation of Kahnle this afternoon was the final of a rash of moves the team made to prepare their roster for Kahnle's return today, and in all likelihood, Greg Bird's tomorrow.  Earlier today, the Yankees traded AAA catcher Erik Kratz to Milwaukee and released Adam Lind.  The team already vacated the necessary spot on the 25-man roster for Kahnle after calling up and then immediately sending down LHP Ryan Bollinge

After dropping two out of three games to the Rangers in a slugfest series, the Yankees will head back to New York for a three-game set against the Angels as they try to take back the AL East from the Red Sox. The Yankees sit only a single game back of the Red Sox, while the Angels are four and a half back of the defending World Series champion Astros, who the Yankees face following this series. With the Red Sox playing the surprisingly good Atlanta Braves, if the Yankees could take two of three or sweep this series, they could very likely be sitting atop the AL East heading into their series against Houston.

The New York Yankees have purchased the contract of Wilkin Castillo, a catcher from the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Castillo played a total of 22 MLB games between 2008-2009 with the Cincinnati Reds. This season, he has hit .314 with two home runs and 12 RBIs in 20 games with the Ducks. Credit: Getty Images

At long last, the Yankees starting first baseman Greg Bird will be returning to the major league team this Saturday, in the Bronx, as the Yankees take on the Halos. A rough night for Yankees pitching spoiled another offensive outburst, as the Rangers picked up a 12-10 win on Wednesday night in Arlington. Wednesday also marks the first time that the Yankees have lost a series since they lost two out of three against the Red Sox at Fenway in early April. Despite the loss, the offense continues to roll. The red-hot Yankees came into Globe Life Park in Arlington on Monday night and bombed their way to a win over the struggling rangers. Coming off that series opening win, the question heading into Tuesday was, how would the Yankees fare against Rangers ace (and potential Yankee trade target) Cole Hamels? The answer was not good, as Hamels was able to hold the potent Yankee offense in check and guide the Rangers to a 6-4 win in the middle game of this three-game set. Lately, there has been much talk about the Yankees being "too deep" of a ball club. For many teams, such a problem (if we truly want to label it as such) is an enviable one. However, with key players returning from the disabled and more to on the way, the Yankees have been, and will continue to be, faced with tough roster decisions. The Bombers have already decided to keep the recently reinstated Brandon Drury, a key offseason acquisition, in the minors due to the success of Miguel Andujar, who has filled in at third base in Drury's absence. With Greg Bird due back in the coming weeks, Tyler Austin will likely be sent down to Triple-A. With the injured Brandon Drury now healthy, but possibly not fully healthy, there’s been a minority of Yankee fans that think Drury should be starting over youngster Miguel Andújar. One of those is one of Bronx Bomber Ball’s very own, Gus Wetekamp. Spencer Schultz takes the stance that Andújar should not be going anywhere, while Gus argues that he should be demoted. With June just around the corner, the Trade Deadline buzz, speculation, and rumors will be in full-swing sooner rather than later. The Yankees do not have a lot of holes on their roster, but it is a consensus by now that a starting pitcher is the most glaring need. Much to the dismay of Yankees fans everywhere, Clint Frazier was optioned back to triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Sunday’s win over Kansas City. Frazier made one start over the weekend, going 1-2 with two walks and a run scored. The 23-year-old outfielder is viewed as one of the last pieces of the baby bomber puzzle, and has already shown his sky-high potential.
