OFFICIAL: Yankees acquire OF Andrew McCutchen for IF Abiatal Avelino and RHP Juan De Paula

Image
The Yankees have announced that they have officially acquired outfielder Andrew McCutchen and cash considerations from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Triple-A shortstop  Abiatal  Avelino and Single-A RHP Juan De Paula. The deal was first reported by Joel Sherman of the NY Post.  I hear if the trade is completed #yankees will be sending two prospects to the #sfgiants for McCutchen and that Abital Avelino is one of them. — Joel Sherman (@Joelsherman1) August 31, 2018 New York, in dire need of outfield help with  Aaron  Judge now shelved for over a month and Shane Robinson hitting under .150 in his place, needed to make a move like this to bolster its roster heading into the final month of the season.  After tonight’s brutal loss to the Tigers, it seems the American League East crown is out of reach, but the Yankees need to ensure they are as strong as possible heading into the AL Wild Card Game.

Stanton hits 300th career homer, Yanks lose after Betances meltdown

It’s fitting that Giancarlo Stanton hit his 300 th  career homer in a slugfest of a game. J.A. Happ got the start for the Yankees, struggling for the first time since donning the pinstripes on July 29 th , lasting 4.1 innings and giving up five runs on 10 hits. The story of the night was the long ball and all game it seemed as though one team was going to rip out the other team’s heart with a late home run, which is exactly what happened in the top half of the ninth inning. J.A. Happ began the game with an early blemish. With a 2-2 count to the leadoff hitter starting the game off, Jeimer Candelario, Happ threw a fastball right down the middle of the plate, and the third baseman took him deep to left to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.  After a leadoff single by Brett Gardner in the third, Aaron Hicks hit a single to right fielder Nicholas Castellanos who threw a laser to Candelario at third to get Gardy who was trying to advance. That brought up Giancarlo Stanton, who knew

Series Preview: Detroit Tigers vs New York Yankees (8-30/9-2)

Image
The Yankees will welcome the Detroit Tigers into the Bronx for a four-game weekend series. The clubs split a pair of games in Detroit back in June. New York is coming off a series loss to the White Sox where they only combined for three runs in their two losses. Nonetheless, the Yankees have won nine of their last 12 games. They currently sit 7.5 games back of the Red Sox in the AL East, but 4.5 up in the Wild Card. At this point, it's pretty safe to assume this club will be hosting a one-game playoff. This four-game set with the Tigers gives the Yankees a chance to bounce back and put three or four more wins on the board.

Offense stifled as Yankees drop series finale versus the White Sox

The Yankees dropped the finale against the White Sox 4-1, despite a quality start by CC Sabathia. This is a very disappointing series loss to a team the Yankees had no business losing to.   Photo Credit: Bill Kostroun | AP

Yanks complete four-run comeback as Walker wins it in the ninth

Image
Tuesday evening’s matchup saw Lance Lynn (8-9, 4.84 ERA) take the mound for the Yanks against James Shields (5-15, 4.59 ERA). Earlier this month, Lynn made his first start as a Yankee against these same White Sox in Chicago. He was superb, going 7.1 IP, giving up zero runs on two hits and striking out nine batters. On Tuesday, Lynn was not as sharp, but pitched well enough to keep the Yankees in the game. The beginning of this game epitomized the dog days of summer: sluggish, long, tiresome and very little action. The Bombers continued their stretch of abysmal defense, making two more errors in the first three innings. If you thought Greg Bird could not play any worse, you were sadly mistaken as he dropped a ball that was thrown at his chest. Despite the defensive blunders, Lynn was able to wiggle his way out of trouble in both innings. Photo Courtesy: Yankees.com

All-around sloppy game snaps Yankees four-game win streak

On ESPN for the second consecutive night, the Yanks let go of a 2-0 lead in the middle innings against another lowly team in the Chicago White Sox. The offense was virtually nonexistent in the 6-2 loss at Yankee Stadium in a poor outing by Masahiro Tanaka. Photo Credit: Bill Kostroun/AP

Series Preview: Yankees vs. White Sox (8/27-8/29)

Image
The Yankees have gotten hot again. They just swept a four game series with the Orioles, and have won eight of their last nine games. The Red Sox on the other hand have lost six of their last eight, and are currently only six games ahead of the Yankees. The Yankees are now back in the Bronx, and will be playing the White Sox, trying to keep some pressure on Boston in the AL East. The White Sox are in fourth place in the AL Central, and are 28 games under .500. The Yankees already swept the White Sox earlier this month, and that should be the goal again against one of the worst teams in baseball.

Andujar, Voit power Yanks to 5-3 win, sweep of Orioles

Image
On Sunday Night Baseball, the Yankees defeated the Orioles, 5-3, at a vacant Camden Yards, to finish off a four-game weekend sweep. More importantly, the Yanks managed to pick up 4.5 games on the suddenly stumbling Boston Red Sox over the last week. After tonight, the Yankees are now five back of Boston in the loss column. Twelve potential September call-ups for the Yankees

Image
The Yankees are playing without a lot of depth due to players traded at the deadline and the numerous injuries they have had to deal with over the summer, so the September 1st roster expansion could not come at a better time. Despite the shortage on reserves compared to the last few seasons, there are a handful of players the Yankees would highly benefit from if they are added come the switching of the calendar month. Here are ten candidates to join the team in the next few weeks. Players with *’s next to their names are not on the 40-man roster, which in a lot of cases could hurt their chances of being called up.   Photo Credit: NY Post

Yankee bats come to life, take game one of doubleheader

Image
Having won five of their last six games, the Yankees looked to stay hot in game one of a Saturday double-header in Camden Yards. J.A. Happ took the hill for the Yanks and secured his fifth win in five starts with his new club. Happ ran into some trouble early, but the Yankee bats didn’t need any help today. They put a ten spot on the Orioles behind Miguel Andujar’s four RBI. The Yankees topped the O’s 10-2. Photo Credit: AP Photo/Patrick Semansky

Walker and Voit lead Yankees to extra inning victory in Baltimore

Image
The Yankees started off Players Weekend in Baltimore against the Orioles.   The Yankees had southpaw C.C. Sabathia on the mound for the first time since coming off the D.L. while the O’s gave the ball to Alex Cobb. It was a back and forth game, but two home runs in extras propelled the Yankees to victory.

Yankees lose 9-3 in an ugly loss to the Marlins

Image
After winning game one of their two-game series against the Marlins Tuesday, the Yankees looked for the sweep with Lance Lynn on the hill. Even though the Yankees took the lead early, pitching let them down late and the Yankees lost 9-3, continuing their trend of losing to some of the worst teams in the MLB. Photo Credit: AP Photo

Yankees win nail-biter in the 12th, 2-1 against Miami

The Yankees were able to turn an August game versus the Marlins into one of the most intense games of the season. The Marlins left the bases loaded twice, in the bottom of the ninth and in the bottom of the eleventh. Both teams had ample opportunities to break out and failed miserably, but the Yankees eventually came out on top in the twelfth. Photo Credit: AP Photo

Justus Sheffield moved to bullpen in Triple-A, primed for September call-up

Image
The Railriders scratched Justus Sheffield from his start today and have announced that he is being moved to the bullpen. While typically this is meant for someone who is struggling and not performing to expectations, this is a different scenario. This move will not only monitor Sheffield’s innings for him so he can contribute down the stretch, but it will allow him to adapt to a new role the Yankees plan on using him in when September 1 arrives. Series Preview: New York Yankees @ Miami Marlins (8/21-8/22)

Image
The Yankees are coming off a nice three-game sweep of their division foe Toronto Blue Jays, while the Marlins are coming off a series victory over playoff contending Washington Nationals.   The last time these two met in early April, they split a two-game series, both games lopsided affairs. This left the Yankees at 8-8, good for third place in their division. Since that point, they have been the second best team in baseball, only the Red Sox have a better record.   The Yankees will be facing off against a pair of rookies, with no prior starts against them.

Happ stifles former team, offense explodes again, in 10-2 win

On a cool, cloudy afternoon in The Bronx, the Yanks dominated the Blue Jays, 10-2, to close out a three-game sweep of their divisional foe. After a rough start to the week, the Yankees got back on track this weekend with the sweep of Toronto. In doing so, they closed out their home stand with a 4-3 record. Photo Credit: Noah K. Yankees comeback to win 7-5 in rain-shortened game

Image
The Yankees played less than seven innings on Friday night in the Bronx, but it was enough to secure a win due to the rain-shortened game. Lance Lynn pitched his worst start in a Yankees uniform with three walks and five earned runs in just four innings. Neil Walker and Giancarlo Stanton both hit home runs to propel the Bombers to a game one win against Toronto.   Photo Credit: Elsa/Getty Images

Is It Time To Move On From Greg Bird?

Image
If you watched Thursday afternoon’s debacle of a ninth inning, you are rightfully angry that Greg Bird swung at the first pitch with the bases loaded and nobody out and fouled out. While Bird has had a few injury-stunted seasons, it has become clear that he is a below-average hitter. Credit: Jim McIsaac/Newsday

Cessa, Yanks Fall Flat to Tampa 6-1

Image
Wednesday night in the Bronx was not a good time to be in a Yankee uniform, as the Rays jumped on the Yanks early and defeated them 6-1. In a game that was started by the infamous Luis Cessa, the Yanks just never seemed to get things going, especially after leaving the base loaded early in the game. The loss kept the Yanks an even .500 on the year against Tampa, and it marked the seventh loss in the last nine games to Tampa. The lone run of the game for the Yanks came in the second inning, as Miguel Andujar lined a ball into the left field seats for his 19th homer of the season to tie the game at one. The Yanks would immediately give up this lead, however the fourth inning saw the Yanks knock out Tampas starter and have the bases loaded with one out. With the bases juiced, Romine struck out and Toe was originally ruled safe on an infield single but was shortly ruled out after replay showed he did not beat the throw. The Yanks wasted their best opportunity of the night and it came

Severino, Cole, and Britton struggle in Yankees’ loss to Mets

Image
Luis Severino’s struggles are starting to be a bit of an issue… The man who just a month ago was in a race for the AL Cy Young now has an ERA sitting at 3.27 after his 4 inning outing giving up 4 earned runs, which wouldn’t be a terrible ERA until you consider the fact that just seven starts ago it was sub two. The Yankees offense attempted to keep the team in the game, scoring 5 runs in a game that Jacob deGrom started, but poor bullpen choices by manager Aaron Boone led to a very tough 8-5 loss to the team from Queens. Big games by Gregorius, Stanton back up Sabathia in 7-2 win over Rangers

Image
The Yankees delivered a dominating performance Sunday afternoon to top the Texas Rangers 7-2 and finish off a four-game series win. With the win, New York is once again a season-high 31 games over .500, but they trail the historically good Boston Red Sox by 9.5 games in the AL East. Photo Credit: Seth Wenig/AP The game got started with a bang for the Yankees as Giancarlo Stanton’s impressive power surge continued with a laser solo shot in the first inning. The home run was Stanton’s 30th on the season and his fifth in the last six games. Stanton has really picked up the slack since Aaron Judge went on the shelf. After a few quiet innings, the offense exploded for five runs in the fifth. The big blow came off the bat of Didi Gregorius, who sent his 21st home run of the year into the right field seats to make it 6-0. It was a big game for the Yankees shortstop, as he flashed the leather throughout, including a dazzling play to retire Delino Deshields in the top of the f
