Yankee bats come alive against Fulmer as the Yankees beat the Tigers 7-3 in the series opener

Image
On a day where the Yankees made a huge trade deadline splash, two young, dynamic pitchers faced off in the Bronx. Luis Severino started off slow, but bested Michael Fulmer as the Yankees rallied off Fulmer in the fourth inning for four runs. The bullpen kept the Tigers’ offense quiet, and the Yankees continued to rake in the later innings as they scored seven runs off of the Tigers’ staff. Photo Credit: Kathy Willens | AP

Series Preview: Detroit Tigers vs New York Yankees (7/31-8/2)

Image
The Yankees have had a successful homestand thus far, winning five of six, and eight of their last ten overall, as they will look to win a fourth straight series versus the struggling Detroit Tigers, who find themselves at 47-56, fourth place in the AL Central. This series marks the first time all season that these two teams have matched up, and it will be the first of two meetings between these teams during the month of August.

Yankees unable to get the big hit, drop series finale 5-3 to Rays

Image
Hoping to finish off a four game sweep against the third place Rays, the Yankees sent Jordan Montgomery to the mound to oppose Jacob Faria. Montgomery struggled from the get go, as he was unable to finish the third inning. The Yankees offense was equally as frustrating, repeatedly blowing scoring opportunities. The Bombers went 1-11 with runners in scoring position, leaving a whopping 10 runners on base. Unable to capitalize with runners in scoring position, the Yankees had their six game winning streak snapped in this 5-3 defeat. AP Photo/Kathy Willens

MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees still have "excellent chance" at getting Sonny Gray even after Jaime Garcia trade

Rapid Reaction: Yankees boost starting rotation by sending prospects Zack Littell and LHP Dietrich Enns to Twins for LHP Jaime Garcia

The Yankees have been linked to numerous starting pitchers this month such as Texas’ Yu Darvish and Oakland’s Sonny Gray. As reported this morning by FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman, Brian Cashman continues to wheel and deal adding Jaime Garcia and cash considerations from the Twins for the Yankees' 22nd ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline in Zack Littell, and unranked LHP Dietrich Enns. Even with Jaime Garcia in the fold, the Yankees still must acquire Sonny Gray

Image
Many of us woke up to news that the Yankees had acquired left-handed starter Jaime Garcia from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for Minor League pitchers Zack Littell and Dietrich Enns. Garcia is certainly an improvement over the likes of Caleb Smith and Luis Cessa, but I'd argue only incrementally. In order to go on a run deep into the playoffs, the Yankees must acquire a top line starter. Sonny Gray, who happens to be under team control until 2020, remains the answer. Garcia is a middle of the rotation starter, and he'll most likely help, but it's still not enough. Brian Cashman's job is not complete just yet. There is still one important move left to make. Gardner walks it off once again, Yankees win sixth straight vs Rays

Image
The rejuvenated Yankees have found themselves back in first place after five straight wins and a cold spell by the Red Sox, and planned on staying in first and expanding their lead as they faced off vs Tampa in a Saturday afternoon game at the Stadium. Lefty youngster Caleb Smith got the start for the Yanks but was pulled early, as this game wound up in the hands of the Yankees bullpen. This back and forth game ended with another Brett Gardner walk off, as a single up the middle with the bases loaded in the ninth gave the Yanks their sixth straight win by a score of 5-4. MLB trade rumors: Yankees looking into Yu Darvish, Lance Lynn, Jaime Garcia with high price on Sonny Gray

Image
The Yankees have reportedly “checked in” on Lance Lynn, Yu Darvish, and Jaime Garcia, while they also continue to closely monitor Sonny Gray. Darvish, Lynn, and Garcia would all be rentals, as Gray is locked up a few more years. With the need of a starting pitcher, the Yanks are looking into just about every guy available on the market. Who should pitch the eighth inning for the New York Yankees?

Image
In the world of baseball, circumstances within an organization have the tendency to change over the course of the season. Going into the 2017 regular season, the Yankees had their bullpen roles lined up pretty easily. The 86-million-dollar man, Aroldis Chapman, would close games in the ninth, the Dellin Betances would be his set up man, and the veteran, Tyler Clippard, would get seventh inning duties. This trio was not to the caliber of  last year's “No Runs DMC,” but there should have been minimal issues shortening games and securing victories. Photo Credit: NJ.com

Tanaka dazzles, Yankee bats stay hot as they defeat Rays 6-1

Image
After a dramatic win last night against the Rays, the Yankees continue to roll and surge for first place in the American League East. Friday night in the Bronx, Masahiro Tanaka (7-9, 5.37 ERA) took the hill looking for some consistency in what has been an up and down season for the former ace. Tanaka was very sharp all night long, striking out five out of the first six batters he faced. The Rays had no answer for Tanaka all night, as he struck out a career-high fourteen batters, in a 6-1 victory. AP Photo/ Julie Jacobson

MLB trade rumors: Sonny Gray trade talks stalling over Yankees unwillingness to trade Gleyber Torres or Clint Frazier

Image
It was reported yesterday by Bob Klapish of USA Today that the Yankees and Athletics were making some serious progress with the Yankees leading the pack in the Sonny Gray trade discussions, though the two clubs were not close to a deal. Now, Jon Heyman of FanRag sports reports that the reason for the clubs being far apart may be due to the Athletics requesting either Gleyber Torres or Clint Frazier as the return in a trade package. Didi Gregorius has become a star in the Bronx

Image
When the Yankees acquired a young shortstop from the Arizona Diamondbacks with an eccentric name following the 2014 season, I didn't expect much out of the player who also happened to be knighted in the Netherlands. Didi Gregorius has emerged as an integral part of the Yankees roster. Dating back to his first season with the Yankees in 2015, Gregorius has gotten progressively better throughout the course of his tenure in the Bronx. This season, however, Gregorius has taken yet another impressive step forward. He has emerged as one of the best shortstops in the league. Flashing impressive signs of power, gold glove defense, and the ability to get on base, Gregorius made a strong case for an All-Star appearance. Photo Credit: Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post

Gardner caps Yankees' comeback with walk-off homer in 11th inning as Yankees win 6-5

Image
The New York Yankees take the first game in their four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays with a walk-off home run in the 11th inning. The back-and-forth game saw the Yankees tie the game in the ninth inning with two outs on a defensive lapse by the Rays. New York had more than a few opportunities to win the game in the first nine innings but needed more to win the contest 6-5. Photo Credit: AP The Yankees started the scoring in the second inning when Jacoby Ellsbury brought home Chase Headley with an RBI double. Ellsbury got the start in center field, after falling out of favor, and rewarded manager Joe Girardi with an early lead. Todd Frazier followed up with an RBI single, bringing in Ellsbury. The team continued the momentum one inning later when Gary Sanchez hit his 15th home run of the season. At this point it seemed as if Chris Archer wouldn't last long. However, he settled down and ended up pitching six innings, not allowing another run on the mound. Tampa Bay

MLB trade rumors: Yankees “leading the pack” for A’s Sonny Gray

MLB Trade Rumors: The Yankees could look to trade Jacoby Ellsbury

Image
For the past week or so, one of the main focuses of the Yankees has been their newest star outfielder, Clint Frazier. As of Thursday morning, the 22 year-old is batting .290/.306/.565 with three homers, 13 RBIs, six doubles, and two triples in 18 games. He’s been an extra base hit machine, but has also managed to come up clutch many times. However, Yankees GM Brian Cashman announced last week that, when Aaron Hicks is activated off the DL in the future, Frazier will be sent back down to Triple-A. Naturally, this caused an outburst. Frazier’s emergency has relegated Jacoby Ellsbury to bench duty, but Ellsbury will remain with the Yankees once Hicks comes back, solely because of his contract. What kind of message is this sending to both the players and the fans? If the Yankees are going to continue with their youth movement, Frazier needs to stay with the team, and Ellsbury needs to be wearing a different uniform come August 1 st .   Photo via Al Bello of Getty Images

Series Preview: Streaking Yankees take on pesky Rays

Image
The New York Yankees may have found their mojo after a two-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds this week and winning three out of four against the Seattle Mariners over the weekend. Now they look to continue that momentum and put distance between themselves and the Tampa Bay Rays who are just a game and a half behind them in the standings. The four-game series at Yankee Stadium could be the difference between first and third place. GAME ONE: (Thursday, July 27 | First Pitch: 7:05 PM ET) CC Sabathia (9-3, 3.44 ERA) vs. Chris Archer (7-6, 3.77 ERA) Both teams will come out guns blazing with the big guy CC Sabathia squaring up against Chris Archer. Sabathia has pitched well in his last two starts, allowing only one run and throwing at least five innings. He has started twice against the Rays, pitching a shutout early in the season and two runs in five innings back in May. Now, the Yankees turn to Sabathia with a chance to go ahead in the standings should the Red Sox stumble. On th

MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees have entered in Justin Wilson sweepstakes

Image
According to Anthony Fenech on twitter , the Yankees have entered as potential suitors for a Justin Wilson trade. Wilson pitched for the Yankees in 2015 before being traded to the Detroit Tigers for Luis Cessa and Chad Green in the offseason. Back in 2015, he was one of Joe Girardi’s most trusted relievers, He posted a 3.10 ERA in 74 games and 61 innings pitched. Wilson is currently having one of his best seasons and would be a welcomed addition to the bullpen. AP Photo | Bruce Kluckhohn

Severino dominates, Gregorius stays hot, and both Frazier's contribute in 9-5 win as Yankees sweep Reds

Image
The Yankees looked to extend their winning streak to three games and complete a two-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds in a Wednesday matinee in the Bronx.  The Yankees sent All-Star Luis Severino to the bump looking for his seventh win of the season against Homer Bailey.  The Yankees erupted for five runs in the seventh inning to take a commanding lead that they would not relinquish as they went on to win 9-5. Montgomery throws gem, Didi stays hot in Yankees 4-2 win

Image
After a much-needed night off after a long road trip, the Yankees were back in action Tuesday night in the Bronx. For the Bombers, Jordan Montgomery (6-5, 4.09 ERA) got the nod as they continue to fight their way back atop the A.L. East as they were only two games back entering tonight’s ballgame. The Cincinnati Reds came into Yankee Stadium for tonight’s interleague battle with Luis Castillo (1-3, 3.86 ERA) taking the mound. The Reds had struggled lately with the majors highest ERA, and have been subpar against lefties all season long. That was evident tonight as Montgomery shut hitters down all evening helping the Yankees secure a 4-2 win. AP Photo/ Frank Franklin II

MLB trade rumors: Yankees making progress on Sonny Gray, Yonder Alonso trade

Image
According to a report by Mark Feinsand posted on MLB.com, the Yankees are one of a few teams that are ramping up efforts to land a top starting pitcher. While the Yankees have been linked to a lot of the pitchers on the market, their focusseems to be mostly on Oakland pitcher Sonny Gray.  Feinsand reported today that the Yankees and the A’s are making progress on a deal that could include first baseman Yonder Alonso as well as Gray. Series Preview: Cincinnati Reds vs. New York Yankees (7/25-7/26)

Image
Following a much-needed series win against the Seattle Mariners, the Yankees only trail the Red Sox by two and a half games in the American League East. Although the Mariners are not an overly formidable team, the series win over them was comforting, as it showed the Yankees are capable of beating the teams they should. The case in this two game series is similar, as the Reds are the current holders of the third worst record in the National League and overall sit 16 games below .500. The series also takes place in the Bronx, where the Yankees have played great ball. The Yankees have played two games against the Reds this season and split the games, while putting up ten runs in the first game. Prior to this series, the Reds dropped two of three games to the Marlins and a game to the Indians. Overall, these two games should be Yankees wins, and these are the matchups and players to watch in this two game series: GAME ONE (Tuesday, July 25 | First Pitch 7:05 PM EST) Luis Castill
