Weekly Preview: NYY @ BAL 4/26 – 4/29, DET @ NYY 4/30 – 5/2

Photo credit: Lineups.com After a weekend series in Cleveland leaves the Yankees record at 9-12, they will be traveling to Baltimore for a four-game series. Immediately following that, the bombers head back home to take on the Tigers in a three-game set.   The Yankees took three out of four in a much-needed winning series against the Indians, their first since their second series of the season the last time they saw the Orioles.   The bats have looked better, the pitching is more consistent, and it looks as if the Yankees may finally be turning a corner from their historically bad start. However, this is just the start as the next 7 days present two must-win sets if they want to keep themselves on a winning path against two squads the Yankees beat out on paper.   Here’s what the next two series of the season will look like…   NYY @ BAL: Game 1: Monday, April 26, 2021  – Yankees @ Orioles | First Pitch 7:05 PM | TV: YES Network, MASN Deivi Garcia (0-0, -.-- ERA) vs Matt Harvey (1-1, 5.1

Opinion: It’s too soon for the sigh of relief, but the Yankees can only go up from here

This Offense is Abysmal

Image
The Yankees offense looks f***ing dead. Every single one of them. Even DJ LeMahieu, the Yankees’ best hitter by leaps and bounds, is in the middle of an uncanny stretch of bad hitting. Of the Yankees every day starters (Higgy is 4-for-13 for a .308 avg  and also Tyler Wade is 1-for-3 apparently lol ), the three highest batting averages are: DJ (.277), Gio Urshela (.276), and Aaron Judge (.268). The next highest… Gary Sanchez with a .200 average, unless you want to count Brett Gardner as every day, in which case the next highest is a .214 average (which props up the team average of .205). And that isn’t even a knock on Gardy, who still puts up Gardy at-bats whenever he’s in the lineup (plus, of his six hits, two of them are doubles) or Gary, who I think has actually put up some really nice at-bats; and, of the team’s 17 grounders into a double play (tied for 3 rd worst in the league), he has grounded into zero (also Gary has walked 7 times and has a .321 OBP, which is third among every

Sunday's late rally overshadow a growing cause for concern

Image
Don’t let Sunday’s gritty come-from-behind win fool you. This Yankees team is still highly flawed and until they can prove otherwise, should not be counted on to win more games like they did on Sunday.

Series Preview: NYY @ Rays 4/9 - 4/11

Image
We are approaching the end of our first full week of the 2021 season now as the Yankees have completed two series against the Jays and Orioles. While the results have been mixed and at times very frustrating to watch, the Yankees are sitting at 3-3. They now head to Tampa, to face the team that eliminated them from last year’s playoffs. The Rays are coming off of six straight games on the road to open the season and just finished getting swept by the Red Sox in three fairly non competitive games earlier this week. A strong weekend could vault the Yankees into first place in the early goings of the season, lets take a look at the matchup. Credit: ESPN

Series Recap: NYY vs. BAL 4/5-4/7

After a not-so-fun opening weekend against Toronto, the Bombers have turned it around a little bit, taking two of three from the red hot Baltimore Orioles this week. The Yanks finally started to get the bats going, with some big contributions from Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Pitching was strong as well all around, with possibly Gerrit Cole’s best start in pinstripes on Tuesday.

BREAKING: Yankees acquire IF Rougned Odor from the Texas Rangers

Image
The New York Yankees have acquired IF Rougned Odor from the Texas Rangers for outfield prospects Antonio Cabello and Josh Stowers.   The news was first broken by ESPN’s Jeff Passan this afternoon.   Passan also notes that the Rangers will be assuming the majority of the money owed to Odor ($27 million) through the 2022 season plus a buyout on a 2023 option.  Joel Sherman of the New York Post was the first to report the prospects going to Texas in the deal.  Photo Credit: Smiley N.   Well that stunk. The Yankees got their season underway with a series loss against the Blue Jays this weekend. While their pitching was very solid and left reasons for optimism, it was a very frustrating weekend of hitting to watch. For most of the weekend, the Yankees had a lot of traffic on the bases, but were not able to cash in time and time again. The hits and the RBIs will eventually come but until then, lets look at what the Yankees have coming up. Credit: ESPN.com

Opening Series Recap: NYY vs. TOR 4/1-4/4

Image
The New York Yankees opened up their 2021 campaign this weekend in unsatisfactory fashion, dropping two of three games at home to the rival Toronto Blue Jays.   The New York offense was held to just eight runs over the three games and only Gary Sanchez was able to put the ball into the seats over the three games.   The big story in this series was the total ineptitude of the Yankees’ offense, particularly in the clutch.

Opening Day is finally here, and boy are those words so sweet.   Major League Baseball battled through a pandemic last season which shortened the season to just 60 games and had empty stadiums throughout the regular season, but we’ve finally turned the corner in this fight against COVID-19 and MLB clubs will welcome back fans (albeit in limited capacities) starting tomorrow, April 1st.    The Yankees are locked and loaded and ready to finally achieve their decade-long goal of bringing home World Series title number 28.
