Miguel Andujar called up to the big leagues

Image
After another New York Yankee was injured in today's loss against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Yankees have called up Spring Training standout Miguel Andujar to replace outfielder Billy McKinney on the 25-man roster, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com . Photo Credit: Charles Wenzelberg Last season, Andujar batted .315 with 16 home runs and 82 RBI while playing for the Yankees’ Double-A and Triple-A affiliates. Andujar only played in 15 games this spring, but during those games he slugged four home runs, batted .267, and had a tremendous .928 OPS. Critics of Andujar questioned whether he was ready defensively for the MLB; he struggled in the minors with consistency in the field, and while he has a very strong arm, he needs to work on his throws’ accuracy. Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke to NJ.com about Andujar’s defensive ability before Spring Training began, “I think he has the skills to be a major league third baseman defensively… There's no question in my mind th

Tyler Austin's two homers not enough as Yankees drop first game of the year, 5-3

The Yankees dropped their first game of the season today as Tyler Austin’s two home runs and CC Sabathia’s solid start were not enough to propel the Yanks past the Jays. Dellin Betances had an implosion on the mound in the eighth, and the Yankees saw Billy McKinney and Adam Warren leave the game with injuries. Photo Credit: AP

Today's Starting Lineup: Boone shakes things up

Image
Today’s starting lineup was released earlier this afternoon and you don’t need to look at it long to see some interesting choices. Remember yesterday when reports came out that Aaron Judge will likely see some time in center with the absence of both Aaron Hicks and Jacoby Ellsbury? Well, one day later and guess who’s playing center and batting second? Nu mber 99. In the leadoff spot above Judge is typically Brett Gardner, but since he’s getting the day off today, it’ll be Neil Walker. Fred Thornhill/ The Canadian Press via AP

Yankees ink LHP Oliver Perez to minor league deal

With the Yankees southpaw reliever depth pretty thin outside Chasen Shreve and their closer Aroldis Chapman, the Yankees have signed 15-year veteran Oliver Perez to a minor league contract as announced by Team Mexico on Twitter.   Photo Credit: Zimbio

BBB Betting Tips: Yankees @ Blue Jays 3/31

With Masahiro Tanaka giving up a homer in the second inning, it looked like as if we were in line for a classic tee-ball Tanaka outing, and that the over would be guaranteed. Tanaka pitched lights out after that, however, and once again the Toronto Blue Jays did nothing to help the over. Today we change  direction and  stay away from the over/under line currently at set at nine.   Photo Credit: Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images

Yankees' depth a key part to their success

Image
The 2018 New York Yankees have an insane amount of star power, headed by the power-hitting duo of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Baseball fans all over the country know these two names extremely well, and even non-sports fans are becoming familiar with these stars. Both players showed why they have gained their popularity in the Yankees' 6-1 win over the Blue Jays on Opening Day; Stanton made an incredible first impression with two no-doubt home runs, and Judge hit a line-drive double that displayed glimpses of his amazing 2017 season. However, stars like Judge and Stanton are just like any other player; they have games where they perform well and games where they do not. Thankfully, there is so much more to the 2018 Yankees' lineup than just Judge and Stanton, and Aaron Boone's team proved that in last night's 4-2 victory against Toronto.   Photo Credit: Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images

Drury, Tanaka lead Yankees to 4-2 victory over Blue Jays

The Yankees, fresh off their impressive Opening Day victory, returned to Rogers Centre for the second of four games against the division rival Blue Jays. Behind a solid outing from Masahiro Tanaka and timely hitting from the bottom of the lineup, the Yankees prevailed 4-2 to win back-to-back games to start the season. Photo Credit: AP

The Yankees hit three homers yesterday and did their part to help my over prediction, even Dellin Betances tried to help us out. Fortunately (unfortunately for this post) Luis Severino was too dominant and the over fell just short. Today our luck turns though! Photo Credit: Getty Images

Rapid Reaction: Opening Day could not have gone better for the Yankees

Image
Well, Opening Day 2018 is in the books and the Yankees took the field yesterday afternoon in Toronto to begin a campaign that will be ripe with expectation and intrigue. Wielding a deep and talented roster with a shiny new toy in the middle of it, new manager Aaron Boone was able to notch his first win (more coming on that later today) and help the Yankees snap an Opening Day losing streak that stretched all the way back to 2011. Here a few thoughts as well as a few (over) reactions from game number one.  Credit: Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images Giancarlo Stanton is ready for New York Freed from Miami this year and thrust right into the middle of this Yankee lineup, Giancarlo Stanton is a now a member of a winning ballclub with championship expectations. He has been seeking this since arriving in Miami eight years ago, and he will now have it in the high-pressure environment of New York. For those of us that worried that Giancarlo might be overwhelmed or face an adjustment p

Bronx Bomber Babble Episode 10: Stanton's debut, Sevy's 1 hit performance, looking at the A.L East, and more.

After the first Yankees Opening Day win since 2011, Matt and Ryan hopped on the podcast to talk about Stanton's debut, Sevy's one hit performance, how the Yankees lineup should look without Bird, how some Yankees looked in their debuts, take a look around the A.L East, and much more. Giancarlo Stanton's two home runs lead Yankees past Blue Jays on Opening Day 6-1

Yankee fans, we did it. We finally made it to Opening Day. The long, cold offseason has ended and meaningful Yankees baseball has returned, and it retuned with an exclamation mark. Led by the 2017 NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton and his two long balls and Luis Severino's stellar outing, the Yankees dominated the Blue Jays win Aaron Boone’s first game of his career as a manager.   Photo Credit: AP

2018 Pinstripe Preview: Jonathan Holder

Image
With one of the most feared bullpens in the sport, the Yankees are a force to be reckoned with. However in a stacked bullpen there is still some room for other Yankees to step up. As of right now, one guy who has a very bright future, if he is able to put it all together, is Jonathan Holder. Many people remember Holder for breaking his belt in his short stint with the Yankees back in 2016, but Holder had a very quiet 2017 season that showed he had a lot of major league potential. Holder, who is just 24 years old, was sent back in forth from the majors and the minors in his first two MLB seasons, but it is looking more and more promising for the hard throwing right hander as he made the team out of spring training. 2018 Pinstripe Preview: CC Sabathia

Image
While there is a lot of hype surrounding the Yankees going into the season, not much has been said about the return of the wily vet CC Sabathia. Sabathia returned to the Yankees on a club friendly deal because he saw the potential in this young group of guys, being quoted as saying, “I want to see this thing through, I want to come back here and finish things off”. He was crucial in the Yankees' success last year, becoming the stopper, going 9-0 when following a loss with a 1.71 ERA. Without this effort from the big man, the Yankees likely have a much tougher time getting into the playoffs last year. Photo Credit: Paul J. Bereswill

BBB Betting Tips: Yankees @ Blue Jays 3/29

I attended my first “Bleacher Creature” game in 2008 against the Toronto Blue Jays. The crowd was electric, and chanted “you get paid in monopoly money” at Vernon Wells for nine innings. It is almost symbolic that 2018’s Opening Day, and my first betting tip article for the Bronx Bomber Ball, comes against those same Blue Jays.  Unlike Vernon Wells, the goal here is to make some real cash. In saying no to Yankees’ beer foam, MLB exposes hypocrisy on alcohol

Image
In the era of extravagant ballpark tastings, Major League Baseball teams are constantly looking for new ways to satiate their diverse fan bases. Long gone are the days when peanuts and Cracker Jacks were enough to keep bellies full, and butts in the seats. From the Astros’ Chicken Waffle Cone , to the D-Backs’ Churro Dog , teams continue to find new ways to get fans out to the ballpark, and keep them happy once they’re there. Last Monday, the Yankees held a media tasting event to roll out their new offerings for the 2018 season, which included a machine that imprints player faces onto beer foam (if you’re going to pay $15 for a beer, why not have Aaron Judge’s likeness on it, right?). A novel idea, to be sure, but that did not stop MLB from putting the kibosh on the whole plan, once again exposing the league’s hypocrisy when it comes to alcohol.   Photo Credit: The Comeback

The Yankees are loaded with young players and should consider capitalizing on their value

Image
The 2018 Yankees are stacked for an impressive campaign, but what is more impressive: the 2018 Opening Day Yankees, or the other young players tucked away other organizations would love to have?  Photo Credit: Getty Images Names like Clint Frazier, Gleyber Torres, Justus Sheffield, Chance Adams, Estevan Florial, Miguel Andujar, Albert Abreu, Domingo Acevedo, Freicer Perez and Domingo German amongst a slew of other high performers are on the outside looking in on the 2018 Opening Day roster. There is is a chance that some of these names won't make a meaningful impact as a New York Yankee, but they can set the course of Yankee history due to their value as prospects.  The Fall of 1992 was sure to be satisfying to a young power hitting outfielder with speed for the New York Yankees Roberto Kelly. He worked hard after being signed young as an international free agent and grinded through the minor leagues, until he made his MLB debut a couple of years before. It all ca

BBB weighs in: Top storylines for the 2018 season

Image
This is it, everyone! Opening Day is officially a single day away.  The long Winter offseason has finally come and gone and in just 24 short hours, Yankees baseball will be back on our TVs nightly.  In preparation of the start of the season, I asked a few of our writers to weigh in on the top storylines heading into the 2018 Season. The question? Simple: 'What are you most excited about?'  Photo via New York Yankees Twitter Andrew Natalizio   Follow @anatalizio0523 In 2017 NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton and 2017 AL ROY Aaron Judge, the Yankees have a power duo the likes we haven't seen since Maris and Mantle. While expecting both sluggers to repeat their 2017 performances might be a bit far-fetched, the Yankees should be atop most offensive statistics this season. Behind Judge and  Stanton  you have Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorius, both coming off career years, and hopefully if/when healthy, Greg Bird. In the interim, I’m excited to see what Tyler Austin can
