Yankees have called the Marlins on Martin Prado and Justin Bour

A day after the Yankees had reportedly expressed interest in A’s RHP Sonny Gray, the Bronx hot stove continues to heat up. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, the Yankees are actively seeking corner infield help and have had conversations with the Miami Marlins about their first baseman Justin Bour and super utility-man Martin Prado. Their American East rival, the Boston Red Sox, are another team that has inquired about the Marlins’ available players.

Justin Bour would be a major upgrade for a team that has had next to nothing in first base production in 2017. Bour has been a quality bat in the Marlins’ lineup for the past few seasons, but is in the midst of his best season yet in the Majors. His .938 OPS and 50 RBIs would improve an already potent Yankee lineup, and Bour would thorgouhly enjoy hitting balls over the Yankees short right field porch for seasons to come. Bour is not a free agent until 2021, so he would not come cheap for the Bombers. The Marlins would most likely be intrigued in the Yankees’ young pitching prospects, such as, Chance Adams and Justus Sheffield in exchange for Bour’s services.

Martin Prado is an interesting case, because he was acquired by the Yankees from the Diamondbacks for next to nothing in 2014 and was then shipped to Miami along with David Phelps in exchange for the notorious duo of Garrett Jones and Nathan Eovaldi and a young RHP Domingo German, who has pitched decently in 2017 for the Bombers. Phelps and Prado have played very well in Miami, while “Nasty Nate” and Jones were failures during their Bronx tenures. Prado would make slightly less sense than Bour, because the Yankees have recently called up Miguel Andujar and Tyler Wade, who could both have similar roles as Prado. Prado is a veteran presence, however, and can also play some outfield. The asking price for Prado would most likely be cheaper than that of Bour.

Stay tuned to the BBB for updates on the rumors.
