Yankee offense continues power surge as Yankees destroy Orioles once again 14-3 to complete series sweep

Coming into Sunday's game, the Yankees were looking to sweep the Orioles coming off their season high 16 run performance.  Chad Green got the spot start for the struggling Masahiro Tanaka, as Tanaka’s start was pushed back to tomorrow night against a weaker Angels lineup, and the Yankees registered yet another outstanding offensive performance, winning by the final of 14-3.

Green looked good in first inning, using his fastball to beat some of the O’s best hitters, and blowing it by them at times. Green set the O’s down in order with two strikeouts in the first, as the Yanks came to the plate and picked up right where they left off Saturday night.

Brett Gardner and Aaron Judge started it off with base hits, and after a walk to Matt Holliday, the bases were loaded for Starlin Castro. Castro ripped a fastball up the middle and delivered a two run single, giving the Yanks an early 2-0 lead.  The next batter was red hot Gary Sanchez with two on, and the Kraken unleashed, launching a 450 foot shot into left center, going deep for the second straight game, and putting the Yanks ahead 5-0 after the first inning.

The game looked as if it were on the verge of another blowout in the second, when the bases were once again loaded in the bottom of the second, with Castro coming to the plate with a second opportunity in as many innings. Orioles pitcher Kevin Gausman was a pitch away from getting pulled, but got a huge double play ball to end the inning, keeping the game at 5-0  heading to the third.

Green surrendered back-to-back doubles to start the third, making it a 5-1 game, and forcing Green out of the game after just 2+ innings.  Chasen Shreve was the first of many relievers to come out of the bullpen, and he mirrored Green’s start to the third, giving up two more doubles, and making it a 5-3 game. Shreve would get the next three outs, keeping the Yanks up by two.

In the bottom of the fourth, the two guys named Aaron continued to produce with a walk from Hicks and a double by Judge, giving the Yankees two runners on for the fourth straight inning. Gausman had gotten out of jams in the second and third, but couldn't do the same in the fourth, as Holliday looped a two run single into center, forcing Gausman out of the game and making it 7-3 after four.

Jonathan Holder was the third pitcher of the day for the Yanks, and despite giving up two hits and a walk over 1 ⅔ innings, he kept the O’s off the scoreboard, as Adam Warren came in to get the final out of the fifth and kept it at 7-3. Warren would come back out for the sixth and work a scoreless inning.

The bottom of the sixth inning was highlighted by three more runs for the Yanks, but no run bigger than the solo shot by Aaron Judge. Judge cleared the left field bleachers with the shot, as the ball went 495(!!!!!) feet, leaving the announcers, fans, and baseball world astonished. Even after Castro hit a two run homer later in the inning, the buzz was still around Judge, as he nearly hit that elusive 500 foot mark, and helped the Yanks increase their lead to 10-3 after six.  

After getting an out in the seventh, Warren was relieved by Domingo German, who was recently called up and was making his Major League debut. German got out the first two batters he faced, and the Yanks bats continued to put up absurd numbers in the bottom half, as Hicks drilled a two run double to the wall, and up next came Judge….you can guess what happened next - another home run.

Judge hit his second of the game, his league leading 21st of the year, and the ball barely got off the ground, making it a 14-3 Yankees lead. German came back out for the eighth and set Baltimore down in order before ultimately finishing the game in the ninth to complete the sweep and give the Yankees the 14-3 victory.

The Yankees have now scored eight or more runs in five straight games for the first time since 1956, and currently have four hitters batting above 300. They also have a league leading six hitters with 10+ home runs on the season. The Yanks will now go out west, to face the Angels and Athletics, and have a great chance to continue their team hot streak.. It was another great weekend in the Bronx, and the Yanks just can't stop hitting.
