Yanks blitz O's, win 11-4

The Yankees dispatched the Orioles with relative ease, taking the win by a score of 11-4. The New York offense was terrific, and Domingo German had all the help he could ever want en route to the win.

The party got started early, with Gary Sanchez blasting a three-run homer to left field in the top of the first inning after David Hess gave up consecutive singles to DJ LeMahieu and Luke Voit. It looked like Sanchez didn’t get the best contact on the ball, but he hit it well enough to carry it over the fence and give the Yankees the lead.

Then in the third, after an Aaron Hicks walk, Gio Urshela hit a long fly ball that went in and out of the glove of left fielder Dwight Smith Jr., allowing Hicks to score from first base. Clint Frazier stepped up and hit the first of his two homers on the night over the center field wall to extend the lead. Frazier’s second long ball came in the fifth, this time scoring both Hicks and Gleyber Torres, who would add an RBI single of his own in the sixth. Also in the sixth, DJ LeMahieu scored on a fielder’s choice to round off the scoring. 

 On the pitching side, Domingo German was solid if not spectacular. German went five innings, allowed three runs (two of them earned), walked one, and struck out five. The newly-signed David Hale took over proceedings from there, and pitched four innings, allowing one run. 

What’s Next? 
The Yankees and Orioles will square off again tomorrow, as CC Sabathia (2-1, 2.97 ERA) will face off against Dan Straily (1-3, 8.51 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7 PM EST.

 UPDATE D 11/18/15 We’ve all heard it: The Yankees aren’t likely to be big spenders this offseason. Hearing this makes me chuckle as the Yankees have the dollars to field a $500 million pay roll if they wanted to, but their dedication to winning just hasn’t been there since the passing of good ole’ George. Sure little rumors have serviced here or there about them maybe pursuing Zach Greinke who has recently opted out of his contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but that move reeks of the move CC Sabathia pulled in opting out of his contract with the Yankees a few years back to simply restructure his contract and make a better payday.   However, instances like CC Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka are why I believe the Yankees aren’t going to shell out big money and a long term contract for a big name starter this year. No team in baseball history has a story quite like the Yankees. 27 times they’ve found baseball Nirvana which is 16 more than the next closest team (Cardinals). 40 times have the Yankees won the American League, and that is also a major league record. The franchise won four straight championships from 1936-1939 and five straight from 1949-1953, a task no other team has ever accomplished.
