Masahiro Tanaka hits the 10-day DL, Gallegos up

The injury bug strikes again for the Yanks with Masahiro Tanaka heading to the 10-day DL with shoulder inflammation. This is the second starter in the rotation to go down this week, with CC Sabathia going down with right knee soreness and also being placed on the 10-day DL. Now, with Tanaka down, there’s a hole that needs to be filled in the rotation. After starting the season rather poorly, Tanaka has been getting back to his “Ace” type ways. Over his last four starts he’s given up eight earned over 24 innings pitched, while also striking out 31.

The coinciding move that was made with Tanaka hitting the DL was the promotion of Giovanny Gallegos from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Currently at the major league level Gallegos has pitched in nine games, boasting a 7.15 ERA through 11.1 IP, while also striking out 11.
