Yankees acquire Cameron Maybin from Indians
With
a plethora of outfielders on the IL, the Yankees struck a move Thursday morning
to improve their outfield depth by trading for veteran outfielder Cameron
Maybin from the Cleveland Indians. The move was first reported by Jack Curry of
YES.
A
career .254/.322/.368 hitter, Maybin is a shell of the player he once was. The
32-year-old used to be a 40-stolen base threat who could patrol the outfield
with incredible range, but was not able to find a job in 2019 after playing marginally
in 129 games between Miami and Seattle last season.
Maybin
was not hitting well in Triple-A Columbus as he has posted a .688 OPS thus far,
so it is not a sure thing that he will be added to major league roster.
Nevertheless, this is a good depth move for the Yankees who have seen their
surplus of outfielders depleted in the season’s early going.
Maybin
was also arrested on a DUI charge while playing with the San Francisco Giants
in spring training.
