Yankees lose 9-3 in an ugly loss to the Marlins

After winning game one of their two-game series against the Marlins Tuesday, the Yankees looked for the sweep with Lance Lynn on the hill. Even though the Yankees took the lead early, pitching let them down late and the Yankees lost 9-3, continuing their trend of losing to some of the worst teams in the MLB.

The Yankees started the scoring in the fourth inning. Aaron Hicks walked, then two batters later Neil Walker lined one into right. On that play, Rafael Ortega dove to make an inning ending catch, but the ball popped out of his glove, and rolled to the wall giving Walker a double, and the Yankees their first run.

The Yankees added another run in the top of the sixth, when after singles by Brett Gardner and Aaron Hicks, Neil Walker hit a sacrifice fly to center, for his second RBI of the game, giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead.

Lance Lynn was dominant through the first five innings, and didn’t allow a run. In the top of the sixth though, Brian Anderson and Starlin Castro led off the inning with singles, and one out later Austin Dean singled Anderson in. The next batter was Miguel Rosas who hit a homerun to left field to give the Marlins a 4-2 lead. Tommy Kahnle was brought in the game after Lynn gave up another hit, and let up a double to Yadiel Rivera to give the Marlins a five-run inning. 

 The Yankees threatened in the seventh when Luke Voit, and Brett Gardner both got on with two outs. After a passed ball moved them to second and third, Giancarlo Stanton hit a high chopper that ended up being an infield single, and scored a run, but Aaron Hicks then struck out to end the inning on a questionable strike three call.

Chance Adams pitched the seventh and eighth for the Yankees, and let the game get away. He walked three, let up four hits, and allowed four runs in 1.2 innings. Adams threw close to 50 pitches tonight making it unlikely he will pitch in the upcoming double header. 

What’s Next?
The Yankees have an off day tomorrow, but will be in Baltimore against the Orioles on Friday. C.C. Sabathia will be coming off the D.L. for the Yankees against Alex Cobb for the Orioles.

 UPDATE D 11/18/15 We’ve all heard it: The Yankees aren’t likely to be big spenders this offseason. Hearing this makes me chuckle as the Yankees have the dollars to field a $500 million pay roll if they wanted to, but their dedication to winning just hasn’t been there since the passing of good ole’ George.
