For the third time in the last 27 days, the Yankees found themselves playing a double-header. In the first two twin bills, New York won both games, but today they split the day/night duel with their cross-town rivals, the Mets. In game two of the day-night double header, the Yankees found a way to attack and score runs early, propelling the team to their second victory of the day. Chad Green started the night on the mound against KC’s Jorge Lopez. A huge seven-run sixth inning helped lead the Yankees past the Rays, in a game where Aaron Boone decided to emulate the opponent by using Chad Green as an opener.  In the inning, the Yanks scored more than the opposing Rays did through nine innings thanks to great plate discipline from the bombers, who earned nine walks on the day.  Green lasted less than two innings, giving up two solo homeruns. He then gave the ball to Nestor Cortez Jr., who lasted four innings and gave up three runs for the Yankees, the last runs they would surrender all day.  Up until the bottom of the sixth inning, the game was looking to be a back and forth battle with both teams knotted up at five through five innings, with homeruns by: Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks, Kevin Kiermaier, and Willy Adames.    Photo by Sarah Stier/Getty Images

For the second straight weekend the Yankees and Rays are set to face off, this time in the Bronx. Since the last time they saw each other both teams are 2-0 with the Rays taking two from the Marlins and the Yanks winning a doubleheader against the Orioles. This means Tampa Bay will open this series leading the AL East by just half a game, so whoever wins this series will be on top of the division.   Photo Credit: SI.com

Prior to Monday night’s rainout, Jonathan Loaisiga became the seventeenth Yankee to land on the I.L. this season, succumbing to a rotator cuff strain. Loaisiga had only taken one turn in the rotation to this point in place of the injured James Paxton, but will now be shut down for at least a month. The Yanks will now look to Chance Adams, who was recalled from Triple-A to take his place on the roster. So now the question: what does he bring to the table?

If you’re a baseball fan, you’ve heard it said before, “you can never have too much pitching.” That’s because it’s essentially impossible for a Major League team to go through an entire season using just five starting pitchers. Take last season, when the Yankees used 11 different starters to get through the 2018 campaign. The team needs to have a backup plan in place. And for New York, that backup plan is pretty obvious. The next man up in the rotation should be Jonathan Loaisiga. In four starts last season, an admittedly small sample size, Loaisiga had a 3.00 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 18 innings. The 24-year-old righty also struck out 21, while handing out eight free passes. The high walk rate shouldn’t be cause for concern, however, as Loaisiga walked just eight in 56 Minor League innings last year. The Yankees are playing without a lot of depth due to players traded at the deadline and the numerous injuries they have had to deal with over the summer, so the September 1st roster expansion could not come at a better time. Despite the shortage on reserves compared to the last few seasons, there are a handful of players the Yankees would highly benefit from if they are added come the switching of the calendar month. Here are ten candidates to join the team in the next few weeks. For the third straight day, the Yankees put together an embarrassing and lifeless performance in Boston, falling 4-1 to the Red Sox at Fenway. It's almost hard to believe that a team with as much talent as this Yankees group could look this pathetic in the most important series of their season, but here we are. With today’s season-high fourth straight loss, New York is now a season-high 8.5 games out of first place in the AL East. The strength of their farm system at the moment is, by far, pitching. According to MLB.com’s rankings, 22 of the Yankees top 30 prospects are pitchers. With an influx of young offensive players becoming major leaguers in the Bronx in recent seasons, such as, Gary Sanchez, Aaron Judge, Clint Frazier, Greg Bird, Miguel Andujar, Tyler Austin, Tyler Wade, and Gleyber Torres, the Yankees’ front office has made it a point to try to build up their pitching depth and have successfully done so. The New York Yankees, having recently lost both Jordan Montgomery for the season to Tommy John Surgery and Masahiro Tanaka for a few weeks due to cramps in both of his hamstrings, are set to call up electric right-hander Jonathan  Loaisiga  to make his Major League debut on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Rays, per YES Network's Jack Curry. Today's 2018 Pinstripe Preview features third  year right- handed pitcher Luis  Cessa . The young 25-year-old (26 in April) first came to the Yankees alongside bullpen stud Chad Green in the December 2015 trade that sent lefty Justin Wilson to the Detroit Tigers.   Cessa  had previously been a highly regarded prospect in the Mets' system and was a part of the  Yoenis  Cespedes trade along with 2016 American League Rookie of the Year Michael Fulmer.   Luis  Cessa  made his major league debut on April 8th , 2016 in a relief effort against the Tigers and went on to play a swingman role for the 2016 Yankees the rest of the way.     Photo Credit: Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post
