After an exciting 10th inning win in Cleveland, the Yankees are coming back home for a two-game series against the crosstown rival Mets.  The Yankees, who are now tied for first place, will be trying to right the ship after a little slide last week where they lost five of seven.  The Mets on the other hand are coming in a game under .500, and are third in the NL East, five games back of the Phillies.  Last week, they impressively took two of three from both the Giants and Rockies.  In 2018 the Yankees were 4-2 in the subway series, and hopefully they can use this quick series to get back on track.

After Thursday’s game got rained out, the Yankees and Red Sox were able to start a three game series Friday night in the Bronx. Chris Sale looked to continue his great May against a Yankees lineup that was missing many of their top righties. The offense, led by the bottom of the lineup and D.J. LeMahieu, was still able to score four runs against him though, and the pitching staff all did their job to secure a 4-1 victory. After an impressive win in the series opener, the Yankees looked to beat the Mariners again Tuesday night. Masahiro Tanaka wasn’t perfect, but he did enough to keep the Yankees in the game. The Yankees looked to rebound from their ugly loss in game one of their series against the Astros. Even though they did lead two different times, but weren’t able to hold on to it. The bullpen wasn’t good enough yet again, the defense wasn’t sound, and they only managed to get five hits. The Yankees have gotten hot again. They just swept a four game series with the Orioles, and have won eight of their last nine games. The Red Sox on the other hand have lost six of their last eight, and are currently only six games ahead of the Yankees. The Yankees are now back in the Bronx, and will be playing the White Sox, trying to keep some pressure on Boston in the AL East. The White Sox are in fourth place in the AL Central, and are 28 games under .500. The Yankees already swept the White Sox earlier this month, and that should be the goal again against one of the worst teams in baseball.

Very few series in June feel this important. For the third time this year, and the second time in the Bronx, the Yankees will battle the Red Sox in a three-game series. Both teams have been fantastic this year, as both are coming into the series with the best two records in all of baseball. The Yankees had an off-day Thursday, and before that won a three-game series in Philadelphia, and the Red Sox are fresh off a series win against the Los Angeles Angels in Boston. So far this year the teams have split their six games, each winning two at home. The first series, which was in Boston, had a lot of drama, including a bench-clearing brawl started by Tyler Austin and Joe Kelly. With first place at stake, and tensions high, we should be in for a great series from the best rivalry in sports.

After splitting a doubleheader with the Nationals Monday, the Yankees return to the Bronx for three days to take on the Seattle Mariners. This will be the first time these two teams face off this year. The Mariners, who just split a four-game series with the Red Sox, have been very hot lately, going 22-7 since May 18th, and currently trail the Astros by 2 games in the AL West. The Yankees though, are an MLB best 26-11 at home this year, and haven’t lost a series there since April 5th-8th, when they took only one out of four from the Orioles.
