Yankees' bats go cold, Orioles' five-run seventh sink New York in 5-2 loss

After a two game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees kicked off a four game set with the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday evening in the Bronx.  The Yankees would drop the series opener 5-2, despite a solid start from Masahiro Tanaka. Tanaka faced off against Andrew Cashner in what was a good pitching duel, as both pitchers carried shutouts through five innings.

In the top of the sixth Aaron Judge broke through with a solo shot to right, continuing his dominance over the Orioles right where he left off from last season.

In the top of the seventh it was Adam Jones taking Tanaka deep for a two-run homer, scoring Jonathan Schoop.  Tanaka would then surrender a single to Tim Beckham knocking him out of the game. Chad Green would come on in relief, however, Anthony Santander would double to right scoring Beckham, making it second and third with just one out.  Green would get Chance Sisco swinging for the second out, but Trey Mancini would rope a two RBI single to right extending the Oriole lead to 5-1. Green would strike out Manny Machado to finally stop the bleeding and end the inning.

Didi Gregorius would lead off the bottom of the seventh with a double off the right field wall and would score on a Neil Walker single into right.  Tyler Wade would work a walk to put two men on, but Miguel Andujar would pop out to end the inning.   Adam Warren came on in the top of the eighth and allowed just a Chris Davis single before putting the Orioles down.

In the bottom of the eighth, Brett Gardner would work a full count and eventually draw a walk. After Judge lined out softly to second and Stanton struck out, Gregorious and Gary Sanchez would both get hit by pitches back to back, loading up the bases for Neil Walker.  Walker, however, grounded the ball right back to the pitcher Darren O’Day to end the threat

Dellin Betances pitched the top of the ninth allowing just a walk along with three strikeouts.
