BREAKING: Yankees to promote top prospect Gleyber Torres

Well, it's finally happening.  After waiting out the required 20 days in order to gain an extra year of team control on their top prospect, the Yankees have announced they will promote 2B/3B Gleyber Torres to the Major League roster.  Having some of the league's worst production at the second base positions through the season's first three weeks, Torres is expected to slot in immediately and give the New York offense a jolt they were missing from Tyler Wade and Neil Walker.

This news is courtesy of YES's Jack Curry who tweeted this on Saturday evening:

Torres, of course, was cut down in the middle of a strong season last year after tearing his Ulnar Collateral Ligament in his left (non-throwing) elbow, which required Tommy John Surgery, and was sent to AAA to start 2018 to get the final seasoning he needed.  Torres has started off the minor league season hot, going 17-for-46 (.370) with one home run, 11 runs batted in and five total extra-base hits.  He has also seen time in the field at both second and third base, so he would be able to fill either position in the Majors, should the Yankees need it.

The Yankees got a scare on Monday night when back stiffness forced Torres out of a game early, however, the team reported he just got a little tight playing in the cold weather and his removal was merely a precaution.  He returned to the lineup on Wednesday evening and showed no ill-effects of the injury, booming a double in his very first at-bat.

We will update everyone when a corresponding move is announced.
