Yankees drop series finale versus Boston

Coming into the third game of the series, due to game one of the four game set being postponed, the Yankees were looking to finish off the sweep after dispatching the Red Sox by multiple runs in the last two games.

C.C. Sabathia had a solid outing in his return from injury, as he pitched six innings while striking out eight and allowing three runs. Through these six innings, the Yankees offense kept the game close, as the score was 3-2 heading into the seventh inning.

Unfortunately, that’s when the Red Sox offense blew the game open, scoring five off of Luis Cessa in the seventh and eighth innings. Combined with a very solid outing from David Price who usually struggles in the Bronx, the Yankees were unable to top the Red Sox and found themselves losing this game 8-5 after a short offensive burst in the eighth provided some life in the late game.

The offensive standouts for the Yankees included Luke Voit with a home run in the fourth, and sacrifice flys from both Gio Urshela and Gleyber Torres.

Following this loss, the Yankees are only 2.5 games up on the Tampa Bay Rays but are still 8.5 above the Red Sox in the division standings

What’s Next?
The Yankees will face the Blue Jays next with the three-game series starting on Tuesday in Toronto. Masahiro Tanaka is currently slated for the start and will be facing off against Clayton Richard.
