Yankees week in review (6/24-6/30): Yankees sweep the Blue Jays and outslug the Red Sox in London

The Yankees kicked off a historic week by taking three games from the Blue Jays. The Yankees tied the consecutive game home run record with a home run off the bat of Aaron Hicks in game one of the three-game. This game was initially a blowout, but Jonathan Holder’s implosion in the eighth resulted in the game becoming much closer than it should have. The Yankees were able to hold on.

In game two of the series, DJ LeMahieu took no time in breaking the home run record as his leadoff home run secured the feat for the bombers. The Yankees struck early, and the combination of Green and Cortes stifled the Jays’ offense.

The Yankees completed the sweep by erasing a 5-0 deficit led by three hit games from Judge, Gregorius, and Torres. James Paxton struggled in this one, but the Yankees’ offense was too much for the Blue Jays’ subpar staff.

Following the sweep, the Yankees moved across the pond to face their infamous rivals, the Boston Red Sox. Game one of the series was must-see television as both teams broke out for six runs in the first inning and slugged it out throughout the game. Both teams combined for 30 runs, 37 hits, and 12 walks. Neither starting pitcher made it out of the first inning, and London fans were treated to a nearly five-hour game.

The final game of the London series saw the Red Sox jump out 4-0 as opener Stephen Tarpley was not able to stop the top of the Red Sox order. The Yankees got to the Sox bullpen in the seventh and exploded for nine runs, but the Red Sox did not go down easily. They made it a four-run game in the eighth, but Britton was able to stop the bleeding. There were 20 more runs and 28 hits. The Yankees home run streak remains at 31 games.
