Deivi Garcia selected to the 2019 MLB Futures Game
Right-hander Deivi Garcia of the
Trenton Thunder has been selected to represent the Yankees in the upcoming 2019
MLB Futures Game. Garcia’s value has
skyrocketed this season after starting the season in High-A Tampa before
eventually being promoted to the Double-A Trenton Thunder.
The 5’9” 20-year-old has shot up
to fourth overall on MLB’s
top-30 Yankees prospect list. Across
nine starts with the Thunder, Garcia is 4-2 with a 2.68 ERA. He’s also racked up a ridiculous 76 strikeouts
in just 47 innings of work and held hitters to a measly .171 average. His last 2 starts have been nothing short of
spectacular. In Garcia’s most recent
one, he combined with Domingo Acevedo and Daniel Alvarez to pitch a no-hitter. In the start prior, Garcia went six innings,
allowing one hit and no runs while striking out 15.
Whether it be with the Yanks or
with another team, should he ultimately be traded at the deadline, his future
is certainly bright. It’ll be fun to see
how his stuff stacks up against some of the game’s best young prospects.
