Giancarlo Stanton's two home runs lead Yankees past Blue Jays on Opening Day 6-1

Yankee fans, we did it. We finally made it to Opening Day. The long, cold offseason has ended and meaningful Yankees baseball has returned, and it retuned with an exclamation mark. Led by the 2017 NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton and his two long balls and Luis Severino's stellar outing, the Yankees dominated the Blue Jays win Aaron Boone’s first game of his career as a manager.

It almost seemed scripted in the first inning. After Gardner got on thanks to an error by former-Yankee Curtis Granderson, Judge followed up by striking out. Fortunately for the Yankees, with one on and one out, the batter was Giancarlo Stanton.

Stanton took a first pitch strike. He then, making it look effortlessly, hit an opposite field bomb 430 feet into the crowd. Just like that, the Yankees were on top 2-0 with Stanton hitting the hardest opposite field home run in StatCast history.

As for the other side of the ball, Luis Severino was absolutely cruising. He didn’t even give up a hit until the fourth inning. His stuff was spot on, and the nerves were non-existent.

The Yankees added on some more runs in the fifth. With Judge on first and two outs, the batter was who other than Giancarlo Stanton. Go figure, he ripped a double in to left center field allowing Judge to score from first making it 3-0. Giancarlo Stanton was having an amazing debut.

The Yankees wouldn’t stop there. The next batter was Gary Sanchez. He followed Stanton’s double with a double of his own, increasing the Yankees’ lead to four.

The Yanks tagged on another in the seventh as Brett Gardner led off the inning and promptly deposited a ball over the right field wall for a solo homer. The Yankees were rolling, now with a five-run lead.

Dellin Betances came in to pitch in the eighth. Unfortunately for him, nothing ever seems to come easy. The first batter he faced, Kevin Pillar, took him deep on the first pitch. Luckily, Betances retired the next three batters to get out of the inning.

In the top of the ninth with two outs, Stanton came to the plate again, already having a big game. Apparently, he was built for the Big Apple because for the second time in his inaugural Yankee start, he hit a monster home run.

Aroldis Chapman came on in the bottom half, recording all three outs in order. For the first time since 2011, the New York Yankees were victorious on Opening Day. As if it wasn’t already obvious enough, it’s going to be one hell of a year in the Bronx.

The Yankees will look to take game two tomorrow against the Blue Jays at 7:07pm as Masahiro Tanaka takes on Aaron Sanchez.
